Here's the result of using just some dollar store oil and a couple splashes of soy sauce.. that's it!

Why put it through the strainer instead of putting the plastic containers in a bag and setting it on fire?

To reuse the containers. Burning plastic bags releases harmful particulates.

It's hilarious you have the same reactions I did when they started invading 3 weeks ago. I've never seen so many, this year is crazy earwig town. You can also go out at night and spray the flowers in diatomaceous earth. I could find 3-4 chilling in each flower.

Clove oil also works, I had an organic spray with clove oil and it seemed to affect them immediately.

Yeah, they’ve completely decimated my petunias and now they’re on everything..even in the house! I’m doing this tonight! I’ve been having my daughter save the plastic containers the Kraft macaroni and cheese comes in (the microwave ones), I just peel off the foam label and wash them. I was originally going to use them for paint but, they’re going outside tonight! This is war! Lol

Yes they work. Put them out as early as possible. Save old cooking oil.

I add lemon or bacon, as they seem to love pungent aromas, but I'm not plague by them, here in Glasgow, Scotland, to this frightening extent. In fact, I only trap them for a few weeks, a kind of population control, as they are part of my assault team on aphids and other soft bodied insects, along with ladybugs, lacewings, hoverflies and parasitic wasps. Most I'll get is maybe twenty a night. What you guys have is invasions, by the looks of it. 😂😂😂

Thanks for the tip and proof of your results. It's been so long since I've had a problem with them that I've forgotten what I did before. Now that my memory has been jogged.... I used Off spray with DEET.

thanks I'll try this 2marr. my neighbor has a farm in his yard so I see why we have a lot of them around. Also we just started a garden so my yard is big. So I will have to buy a lot of the containers & oil to try & see. Again thanks for the tips.

We've gotten better and better at dealing with them. The sooner you put these out the better. Good luck this year
@billyandrew2 жыл бұрын
They eat a lot of other insects in the garden, but in these numbers are utterly destructive. Obviously they prey on other insects later in the year, which begs the question of what would happen, if they weren't around? I'm guessing it would be one problem exchanged for another and I don't envy you one little bit.

OMG... I am doing this tomorrow! I am in Vermont and have an infestation this year, no doubt since we've been in an unusual rainy period since middle of June and its been very humid, yuck. Not to mention we got 2 months of rain in 2 days the day before yesterday. They are in my flower garden, flower planters, in my raised vegetable garden and in and under everything!!! And yes, I am even finding them in my house, so gross! I am seeing more ants than usual too... ugh. 2 times a day morning & evening I am battleing snails in the garden, lawn, you name it, been filling 2 empty water bottles a day, they sound like dimes dropping in a piggy bank lol. Then I toss them so satisfying... in the beginning a few weeks ago probably got 300+ a day the first week, now 25 to 50 so they are diminished, but we are on a 100 acre farm so staying pro active. Ear wigs your next, that was realy really disgusting by the way, but so worth it! I am on a mission... thank you!

@anishinaabaeАй бұрын
oil is fine to put in your compost. the reason why it’s not recommended is because it’ll cause problems with animals at night who wanna root through your compost.
@noahriding5780Ай бұрын
How far will the earwigs travel to go to the nearest trap? Any idea on this? And this is important to figure out how much spacing you need to put down the next trap and so on.
@anishinaabaeАй бұрын
it’s hard to tell because if they’ve found a spot to nest near a plant they really enjoy munching on, then there’s not much that’ll pull them away from such a prime location! your best bet is to go outside at night when they’ve crawled outta wherever they’re coming from, and see where they like to congregate. set your traps up in those areas and the earwigs will flock to the oil rather than the plants.
@Minding11113 жыл бұрын
I love the roses... I had earwigs on them also so annoying
@billyandrew2 жыл бұрын
Earwigs are on roses to eat aphids and other soft bodied insects that attack roses. Ants, more often than not, transport aphids onto roses. It's a reward system. The aphids eat the plant, then excrete what is called honeydew, which the ants love to eat. The ants are aphid shepherds Earwigs will eat about one hundred aphids a day, if the ants don't manage to kill them.

@tanana20702 жыл бұрын
We used to have a turtle and I collected earwigs over the summer by knocking them off the outdoor furniture on our deck into a container of very hot water. They died instantly. I would keep them in a jar in my freezer so he had fresh meat all winter. It was great. So, I would think if you caught them in oil, if you rinsed them well with hot water to get all the oil off, they would be good then for your turtle. Rinse very well.

Take the devices off them, which will stop them scrolling, then teach them to enter computer code instead, which will make you famous. Alternatively, dry out the student accommodation, which will lessen the likelihood of the student dying of a lung disease and will make it less appealing to the earwigs, who love dampness. 😂😂😂
