as scary as this scenario is, there's a few errors with this scenario that would render it impossible to occur. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1: a underwater earthquake of this magnitude would NOT generate a Megatsunami of this height (or a Megatsunami at all). Both the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami & 2011 Tohoku Tsunamis were generated by underwater Earthquakes of this magnitude, and they generated waves 100-133 feet high (50-60 feet being the smallest). The largest Megatsunami in recent history was the one that occurred in Lituya Bay back in 1958 with a height of 1720 feet. not even the Canary Islands volcano erupting, thus triggering a landslide followed by a Megatsunami that would demolish the east coast in the future wouldn't even generate a wave of 10,000 feet. For a Megatsunami for that size to occur, an asteroid/meteorite would have to hit the ocean (like what happened in the movie "Deep Impact" for example.) 2: Should an earthquake off the coast of Wilmington occur, it WOULD generate a Tsunami roughly the same size or so as the 2004/2011 Tsunamis. Not only would Wilmington be in danger, but nearby coastlines as well (South Carolina, Georgia, Flordia, etc.) When the tsunami does hit land, the areas do sustain damage with lives being lost, the east coast would still be active none-the-less. 3: Finally, IF the earthquake did trigger a 10,000 foot Megatsunami going 700 MPH, there is NO WAY in hell that people on the east coast would be able to evacuate in time in just an hour alone, the mass panic and traffic jams would make it impossible. easily the east coast would be devoid of all life after the wave made landfall.

Jpower well they have been studying a volcano off the west coast of Africa. They say if it erupted one more time half of the mountain would collapse at speeds to 100km. Thousands of tons of rock will fall into the ocean. It may cause a tsunami as high as 600 meters high. It would grow smaller crossing the ocean about 20 meters when it hits US east coast. I’m just taking a guess it was this mountain that caused the tsunami lol (mount Palma). It hasn’t happened yet. But people have been having visions. But lucky for meh I live on the west coast

10,000 FEET Imagine being in a plane ok, Then seeing this GIANT BLUE WALL TWICE THE CRUISING HEIGHT OF YOUR PLANE. THIS TSUNAMI'S PEAK IS HIGHER THAN MOST CLOUDS, AND ABOIT A FOURTH OF THE WAY TO THE TROPHOSPHERE
@megan56165 жыл бұрын
Skadoosh9001 That’s....a scary thought!
@mauricioguzman20015 жыл бұрын
Skadoosh9001 Dude, airplanes travel higher. Commercial airplanes fly between 10-12 kilometers high (between 32,000 and 39,000 feet). If a tsunami is twice the cruising height of a plane, the height of this megahipergigantic tsunami would be almost 24-25 kilometers high (between 78000 and 82000 feet). At that height, you already passed the troposphere. The tsunami would have the height of the zone when the STRATOSPHERE begins. That’s HUGE! And maybe on this situation, Earth would be fucking obliterated. However in this situation, the tsunami has a height of 10000 feet high (3 kilometers approximately). That is the average altitude for skydiving. If you were on a plane, you could perfectly see the tsunami down below you, but wouldn’t do anything to you as you are right now at your plane 3 times higher than the tsunami completely save.

Talking about a wave that reaches the same height as a thunderstorm here, for reference. Also, a wave that is over four thousand miles in width. As much as I appreciate the shock factor involved in this, that is a lot of water being displaced, and it would require emptying out a good forty percent of ALL ocean water in order to happen. I don't think that even an asteroid impact could accomplish this, let alone an earthquake. There's also the fact that the epicenter of the earthquake was closer to the land mass the wave affected, and in most cases, the displacement will cause the direction of the wave to head out towards greater volumes of water rather than away from it. So, in reality, (most likely) RIP Europe. Okay, so there's the part about the width of the wave being the entirety of the East Coast. One known fact about tsunami waves is that they are pinpoint, rather than spread. What that means is that the one wave would actually be many smaller waves headed in the same general direction. The likelihood of such is less than one in a million. It would also require multiple sources of displacement, which of course, a single earthquake could provide with several powerful aftershocks. However, that would create a fan effect, not a spread. Then there's the movement speed. 700 MPH? That's the speed of sound, and for a wall of water to be able to move that fast, especially given the absolute size, it would have to be assisted by hurricane force winds. To put it in perspective, the most recent tsunamis had an average speed of 80 MPH, and that's about as fast as these things can move (but that is still relatively fast). Now, for the displacement as the water moves inland. Let us say that the height of the wall of water remained at ten thousand feet upon landfall (if the wall of water started out about five hundred miles off the coast the height would likely drop by at least four percent), the land itself is going to displace the water, and it will decrease the height of the wall significantly. High structures, mountains and such will further displace the water. After a while, the water speed will also slow, and displace even faster. Now, how long the process of excessive tidal inflow will take to revert to outflow, that can vary, but for something like this, I'd give the total distance traveled in one direction to be about a thousand miles or so, before the wall becomes a pool, and recesses. It'd take about a week before the water recessed completely, and though there would be significant erosion, the most likely scenario would be a massive rebuilding of structures. One thing to keep in mind about tidal waves and tsunamis is that they are semi-triangular shaped; the height of the wave tapers down its' width. A single tsunami wave with a height of 10,000 feet and is four thousand miles wide would most certainly not be ten thousand feet high across the entire width. Phew. Goodness, that took a while to explain. But hey, I know what you're doing here, and I'm sure that these warnings are quite accurate, though I'm not sure about a female auto-speech doing any announcing (at least I've not heard such myself).

How unfortunate, considering I am in California. We don't worry about Tsunamis or Tornadoes or anything much there. Other than the insanely rare Earthquake.
@mg38735 жыл бұрын
Honestly, this scenario is completely devoid of all logic, while these scenarios are entertaining, the science and logic behind this one is completely inaccurate. Depending upon where you live, the tsunami wouldn't impact you. The entire east coast seaboard would be underwater (if this was a legitimate occurrence) if you live on the eastern sea board, you're totally fucked but if you live near Western part of North Carolina (near the Appalachian mountains, you're safe. Tsunamis don't go all the way inland typically.

When the La Palma Volcano on the West Coast of Africa erupts it will likely cause a massive tsunami that will travel across the Atlantic in 8 hours and wipe out the eastern seaboard. I saw a whole show about it. It could happen at any minute apparently
@Hadfield156 жыл бұрын
Where’d you get the sirens for the catastrophic danger warning?
@cyndie266 жыл бұрын
6:50 No offense, but many people would likely have places to go to in the event that this happens other than in those states. An evacuation shelter should only be used as a last resort. Also, how would a city of 8 million people get evacuated? There are only so many routes to take and this would likely cause large amounts of congestion, even with contraflow. Would there perhaps be free flights and train rides to midwestern and west coast cities? This is just a criticism of our current system, but Japan's earthquake warning system apparently just highlights the affected areas on a map and says "prepare for (strong) tremors". This EAS warning may not get its point across until after the event has occurred. However, there is a plan in place to make our system more like Japan's, but this will cost millions in taxpayer dollars.
