Been running on a treadmill in the gym for the last couple of months instead of doing kettlebells. It was all going well until last weekend, when I missed my step and properly flew off the back (really tough one to style out. “I meant to do that” is a hard sell in the circumstances.) Realised that I’d missed my step because I was leaning to one side. Lateral pelvic tilt creeping back in when I wasn’t doing any rotation with mace or alignment with kettlebells. Hunter squat is fantastic for checking the tilt, as long as you’re not so twisted your sciatic is in bit or practically sneaking up on yourself from behind you’re so misaligned. Back to the grind for me now. Huge, HUGE advantage of kettlebells - when you have a truly epic fail, it’s in the privacy of your own home, and with far fewer witnesses.

Felt like I was getting good at kettlebell front squats. This humbled me with a new challenge. I knew my left side was less stable but this proved it!

I'm amazed how easy it looks like when you're doing it and how well controlled your lower back is! Actually my back issues was leading me to KB training, and I hope this was some good decision. Now I'm wondering: Would you recommend to exchange Goblet Squats with the Hunter Squat, especially in case the spinal alingment could be improved during Goblets? Sometimes I have this annoying pain in the lower back when getting up from lower Goblet position and/or after a workout including Goblets.

Mark, your boots don't look like either the Belleville Mini-mil or the Solomon XA Jungle boots. I'm probably wrong. But, you have not posted a follow up to the Solomon XA Jungle boots video. Have they been as good as the Mini-mil?

if you only have 1 bell or bells of different weights, which side would you load more, front leg or back leg side?
@Travishibachi87
@Travishibachi87 16 күн бұрын
What do you mean exactly? Front leg is the leg being loaded(working leg) but you can also load this exercise ipsilaterally or contralaterally in the front rack position with a single bell.
@TravisBrownJohn
@TravisBrownJohn 20 күн бұрын
Can this be done with a single kettlebell?
@Travishibachi87
@Travishibachi87 20 күн бұрын
Yes. You can execute that variation 4 ways: left side ipsilateral/contralateral and right side: ipsi and contralateral. Look up Mark's original video on the hunter squat to see how it's done 👍

Is this a single leg assisted squat?
@Travishibachi87
@Travishibachi87 16 күн бұрын
Kind of but not really. It's a single leg squat in an asymmetrical stance. Think of the back leg as a kickstand: the front leg is doing a huge majority of the work but the rear leg/trail leg provides some stability/balance 👍

I normally train barefoot. I think I'll wear shoes for this one.
@shantanusapru
@shantanusapru 19 күн бұрын
IMO, this movement is better trained barefoot -- the traction of/from the toes add to balance & stability much more than with shoes...

You know what even without the kettlebell in my hands just doing that swing motion tears up my lower back and I’ve NEVER had a back injury and always tried to lift stuff with my knees and not my back. So I can’t ever see this being a thing for me.

You can work on your alignment. Take up heavy club swinging . You will accidentally default to better spinal alignment. Run 7 weights.

In this position I end up with pain in the first toe MTP joint of the back foot.
@cioran1754
@cioran1754 19 күн бұрын
I had that, figured is was just something like lack of joint use in that position, pain ended, can't say it's ever seriously 'comfortable' on that back foot though, but don't do large volume of them so there's that. It's worth it for the movement when it cycles around on BOS. There are yin yoga positions, like sitting on the heels, which give a similar feeling, could use progressions of these to desensitise. If you don't have any pain generally, probably ok.

not to take anything away from this great video, BUT... 0:20 "a functional version of split squats" - excuse me? Split squats (standard, front or rear leg elevated) are hella functional! "Functional" of course always depending on the needs of the individual. FWIW, when I did those split squat variants almost exclusively for 1.5-2 years, I was in the best running/hiking shape of my life. I just ate up ALL the hills, and by hills I mean steep af mountain passes. Left all my buddies who could bilateral squat much more than me in the dust fr. Don't sleep on split squats friends.
