Easier than I Thought: Replacing the Bearings and Blades on a Disc Harrow

Good video, I particularly like how you didn’t edit out the part where you forgot the order of how things were supposed to go back together. You showed the entire process. An honest video. You may wanna save your discs. Perhaps you could have them restored by someone? Kinda like restoring a trim edge on a die perhaps? 🤷‍♂️ Great video, now let’s see a full in depth review of that tractor!

Saved the blades and bearings. Beating arent in great shape but are ok. We can replace a single blade if we break one of the back ones.

This was a big help! I've acquired an old Tufline TMF series disc harrow, and need to replace all the discs. Before the go pulling it apart, i wanted to see how it's done. Yours looks very similar to what im working with. What size axle does it use? And where did you find the bearings?

Yes i have replaced bearings a hundred times time’s a couple of good pipe wrenches and big ones are important and snipe’s or big pipes that go over the pipe wrenches so as to leverage the torque and break things loose or to torque up the blades on the gang once the bearings are in place that final torquing up and a good smaller wrenches for doing the smaller bolts for the u bolts etc and that’s about it and mosquito spray and a good pair of coveralls and knee pads and good durable goat skin leather gloves and your good to go and also use your tractor tires as leverage what i mean by that is for example take your pipe wrench and put it up against the tractor tire the end of the pipe wrench the handle part as it’s a solid base and won’t move as your tightening or loosening either way at the beginning unbuttoning the gang’s or once new bearings are in place buttoning up again then you slide the whole gang in place under the frame of the disc harrows or disc plow and your frame is jacked up a bit you then take your good dependable jack all and you lower it over the gang towers and everything should line up than reuse your ubolt’s and big nuts and lock washer and torque em up evenly and real tight and you are ready for the next gang and so on till your Finished the job now go have a coffee or beer and hope you don’t have to do this again for a few hours until you hear that dreaded squeaky sound again inside your cab on a hot sweaty day in the middle of seeding or on a cold fall day when you just want peace in your warm tractor cab either way good luck and have a productive and prosperous day .
