I really love this pattern! I found the perfect yarn and also plan to make a scarf to go with the hat. How many times did you repeat round 8 before you did the cinching? I like the length you ended up with because it slouched so nicely. Thanks.

It may be because of the space she said to skip at the end of Round 8. You might be crocheting into it instead of skipping it.
