Easiest Route Up Pen yr Ole Wen + Southern Ridge Circuit

This is the easiest route up Pen yr Ole Wen and it's mostly a hiking route with a short section of easy scrambling up a gully on the east ridge.
For a continuation, I completed the Southern Ridge Circuit, which includes the summits of Carnedd Daffyd, Carnedd Llywelyn and Pen yr Helgi Du. There is a small scrambling section on the downhill section from Carnedd Llywelyn, but it's at grade -1 and most people find it reasonably easy.
I've done this route a few times, and it never disappoints!

7:47 You are on the summit of Pen yr Helgi Du here. I've done that one, but Pen yr Ole Wen is still number 1 on my "to do" list, along with all the others on that side, up to Drum. Thanks for showing me around and getting a closer look at what the peaks look like.

I want to do this but I’m not the best with exposure/ scrambling. It’s difficult to get an estimation on KZbin videos. Great video, the length and time of the walk was a bit of an eye opener. I’ve seen estimates of 5 hours which I thought were a bit extreme. Maybe they were in a plane 😂

Thanks. I'm a slow walker though, esp as I stop often to film and fly the drone. For this route I would definitely allow more than 5 hours but some people do whizz around.There's only 2 short sections of scrambling (1 on the way up and 1 down) but you will need to use your hands as well as your feet.

Great video, that's pretty much the 2nd leg of the Paddy Buckley Round. We were there last week, unfortunately caught in strong winds and full cloud inversion so it's good to see the views we missed.

Between Ysgolion Duon and Carnedd Llewelyn is there any water ? With a heavy backpack is it safer to descend the East side of Ffynon Lloer rather than West side (down climbing) ? Thanks.

No water up there, it's usually bone dry. Both are similar in descent, a few spots where one needs to be careful etc.

I will ascend from the South and check I can downclimb the Pen-y-Olwen tricky bit. If not, I will try the East side. I will just have to carry enough water to get me to the Northern end. I will camp there and explore that area over a few days.
