You have a way of demonstrating which makes it all seem so easy, and calming. i started my swimming classes last week, everyone (who started with me) managed to float before the first class finished, the thing is i can’t figure out how to keep my legs from sinking, coach says my muscles are tensed but i don’t think so, i stay calm as piece of paper and nothing happens, my legs sink after 10 seconds, we’ve tried a lot of techniques but still the same, any tips?

For sure! You have to kick them lightly to keep them up. If you’re trying to float without kicking, your best bet is to extend your arms above your head underwater like a streamline float. Yes, keep doing as many laps of training each day as you can. Breathe every two strokes (to one side). Take breaks on your back because you can keep moving while catching your breath. Also, do as little kicking as possible - save your legs for the biking and running portions! Let me know how it goes - I can’t wait to hear all about it. - Jonny Rocket (creator)

Unfortunately I could never float on my back..so all the swimming lessons the instructor would say I couldn’t advance. I felt a loss of control on my back. I could float on my stomach kick even swim underwater but more toward the shallow end 4 1/2 close to 5 feet. This was when I was a teenager. I’m a lot older now and I almost feel like I want to go someplace and try to learn again. It can be awkward being the person that can’t go in the deeper water or sit on a noodle and five or 6 feet of water because if I fall over I don’t know if I’ll be able to tread water to get to the top. I enjoy all your videos. Also, what a beautiful pool!

Like you video but that's easier said then done. I'll kick, but apparently I can't get my legs relaxed enough. Would you recommend kickboard, so I can just practice kicking while keep my head out of the water?
@RocketSwimming
@RocketSwimming Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching our video and for your comment! We completely understand that getting the hang of kicking while keeping your body relaxed can be a bit challenging at first. Using a kickboard can definitely be helpful in practicing your kicking technique while keeping your head out of the water. This can help you focus solely on your leg movements and get a better feel for the proper technique without worrying about staying afloat or keeping your head above water. As you become more comfortable with the kickboard, you can gradually work on incorporating the same leg movements into your freestyle stroke without the board. Keep practicing and don't get discouraged, with time and patience, you'll become a pro! Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. - Niraj (CDO)

I have sinking legs but have always been taught to not kick to stay afloat. I see some people (higher body fat) float effortlessly but I could never and my swim instructors said I HAVE to learn to float without kicking. I disagree cause I’m very slim with heavy leg muscles. What do you think?
@RocketSwimming
@RocketSwimming 2 жыл бұрын
I think you should not be required to float without kicking. My legs sink if I give them enough time. I can keep them higher than most for longer than most, but they’ll still sink eventually. I have found that it’s less effort to kick just enough to keep your legs up than to hold some “perfectly still” position. I also don’t like implying all swimmers are the same like other instructors out there. I don’t like coaching in absolutes in general haha :) - Jonny Rocket (creator)

@@RocketSwimming ok, thanks! The instructors that say this are other women with higher fat and average build (average to heavier arms and curvy and carry fat in waist/ lower body compare to my slim and toned arms, small toned waist and slim legs but bigger muscular thighs since I’m a runner) but I was taught by a guy that it was ok to kick. These instructors know because of my build I have a hard time floating without kicking but they insist I work on it otherwise I wouldn’t progress to deeper water.

@RocketSwimming
@RocketSwimming 5 ай бұрын
Floating can be difficult for some people, but with practice and patience, it's possible to improve. For your toddler, it's important to work with a swim instructor who understands their needs and can provide appropriate guidance and support. Encourage your instructor to focus on building your toddler's confidence in the water through fun activities and games. As for your husband, it's not uncommon for adults to struggle with floating due to various factors such as body composition, buoyancy, and fear of water. Please watch this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2bGpGuXaKebnMk Every swimmer is unique, and finding the right teaching style and environment can make a significant difference in the learning process. Keep encouraging and supporting your loved ones in their swimming journey, and remember to celebrate their progress along the way! 🏊‍♂️🌊
