i know you all won't think this is true, but i backed over my bow a few days ago, Centered it. After replacing and bending back in place a few parts, i followed this video. With my new whisker biscuit assembly, quiver that was broken in half and a repaired brand new site i just purchased in the beginning of the season. I managed to tune it all back to zero. Being honest i was a little worried about the first shot. The main bow didn't seem to be bent, so i figured what the heck. Its broken, all i can do is try. Been shooting a bow for a long long time and never tuned one. Always took it to an archery shop. Figured they would just try to sell me a new one, so i said what the hey, give it a whirl. Thanks Average Jack, your helpful video's are priceless.

Its always a good plan to use 3 fletched and 3 bare shafts rather than 1. Theres always the risk that if you chose one shaft, that could be the one that flies funny.

I'm still using the old PSE prong horn arrow rest which allows micro adjustment left or right as well as spring tension. It works perfectly for me and I have no issue on vane clearance. Whiskers biscuit arrow rest don't last very long and need replacement from time to time but its easy to load an arrow. Thank you for your video and all the best for 2022..

If a hunter can't take a deer at under 40 yards with a whisker biscuit, it's definitely not the arrow, it's the indian. I went back to a nearly maintenance/issue-free whisker biscuit on my Mathews Z2 after my drop away failed me enough times and am very happy with it.

I am new to archery/bow hunting, bought an Ek Rex (Archery Research) i just came across this video n wish i did a week ago, i have been learning to tune my bow to me n spent way too long trying to figure it from the shop settings. So i took it all apart n spent hours tuning it through the site alone because i didnt know that about the knock point or whisker biscuit adjustment, but i must of got very lucky with where i set up the whisker biscuit (by eye 👁) because it shoots dead straight n leaves bullet holes with 3 perfect little tears. I have a 5 pin site with each interval at 10m, i am now grouping within 8" at 50m (54.6 yards) so im putting the rest down to my own steadiness 😅 Love ur videos n they are realy helping me understand my bow. Im going to change to a fall away style rest, but now knowing this information im not dreading the new tuning time, so thankyou for being so informative!

I know this video is really old but I thought I would mention for people who are trying to bareshaft tune. Part of the reason you are getting the slight nock high is because you are shooting at a downward angle. When I bareshaft I try to shoot with my target off the ground to where I'm shooting straight. Most of the time I actually shoot through paper because it's easier to see the tear but sometimes I don't have the time or the setup

I came to view this for the past troubles I experienced myself with bareshaft tuning a bow having a W/B. I would suggest skipping bare-shaft tuning for a W/B rest. I worked on bare-shaft tuning for a good amount of time, even portions of days, and the bare arrow always tilted upward a bit in the target...even though I did get both arrows to be side by side *(just as he mentions in the vid; "the nock tilting upward").* It would become worse when trying to adjust for its tilting. And I even went from a 0.32" medium hole biscuit (for a 0.30" diameter arrow) to the 0.38" large hole biscuit. So, and you might do so too, I eventually left it as good as I could get it. Chalking it all up to the shooting of one arrow w/o vanes and another w/vanes through the biscuit. And also for not being sure if it has to do with the reduction of rear weight, minus the vanes, and a resulting change in F.O.C... Or just because there are no vanes passing through the whiskers on the one arrow. I suppose adding matching weight, using tape, to a bare arrow might make a difference; and may be worthy of trying. But after days of working on this; to correct the upward tilt...I just gave up spending any more time doing this. So I then went straight to "broadhead tuning" and got it dialed in much quicker (less than 20 minutes); shooting arrows, with both field and blade tips, with vanes on them. I do miss my drop-away rests. But I switched to the W/B years ago after losing my fingers on my bow hand (work accident); and after an arrow tapping on the riser cost me a shot at a bull...for no finger to hold the arrow in its saddle on the shelf. I am considering another bow w/drop-away to use for when 3D shooting. When I need not worry about any such noise ruining my day/season. I would suggest, if you use the bow for hunting, to just go straight to broadhead tuning. And perhaps reserve bare-shaft tuning for a bow you only mean to target shoot with...and with a different rest. Even then I, personally, would likely broadhead tune the bow before going, and using it, to target shoot. It just makes it easier and quicker by eliminating this process. I do still nock tune all bare-shafts through paper before adding vanes; this after having it well tuned prior.

Ideally yes the target would be level height wise with you as you shooting. Helping with the nocks height. I don't like to bareshaft paper tune whisker biscuit rests. I've pulled out too much hair in the past trying that. Fletched shafts I've worked out okay but this is my go to method when I'm tuning a WB.

You have a very good informative video! I like the way you explain things making it easy to understand. I did notice that at ten feet when you shot bare shaft you were nock high. Again you explained the rest to arrow relationship and adjustments for the result, but I don't think you weren't high because of a rest issue. At 6'4" you are definitely a tall glass of water however if you review the video your shot angle on release was quite a bit down hill and would explain the nock high result. Elevating the target to be even with your arrow at release might be a better set up.

My old setup using fixed 2 blades, standard 4" vanes with aggressive helical worked. I switched to the longer 4" vanes with minimal twist angle available these days and it is better but I still have a flyer occasionally, any recommendations? thanks. Hey Brother. Outstanding video. I have a 2007 Diamond Triumph (I know it's old.) that I recently switched from using a whisker biscuit to a brush capture rest. I tried the 13/16 inch and my arrow was kicked way to the right just sitting in the rest. I found out that Diamond says to measure from the back of the riser to the arrow, then the front of the riser to the arrow. Until they're equal. I found my bow is set at a 1-1/16 inch center. I haven't done any paper tuning or bare shaft tuning. My arrows are grouping real nice as is. Just in case there is another Triumph still out there being shot. I doubt it though. LOL.

Excellent video. Been pulling my hair out a bit trying to tune bow myself as no pro shops locally. I paper tuned and was getting bullets and grouped ok at 25yds. Tried the bare shaft method and it's way out of whack. I'm way knock up, and when I drop my d loop it becomes dramatically out of perpendicular to string. No matter how far down I go it stays knock up. This is my first year into archery, still working on my form but nothing terribly out of order. I have a 28.5in draw length 58lbs ish and am shooting 340 spine arrows. Some are 32" which shows underspined on chart, but recently bought easton 6.5 hunter classics at 30" and a vaned arrow shows the same orientation at 12ft as bare shaft, knock way up. Left/right is ok. Am I missing something? Can it be the spine if they mimic each other? Can form make that much of a difference? Thanks for any input. Running out of ideas

Christopher Hardt I don’t know if you got one already or not. But honestly their a bit of a hassle it’s always just one more thing that’s mechanical and could fail. A whisker biscuit is just simple, set it and done. Hello. I’m really green to archery. I’m going opening day and I wanted to use bow. My neighbor gave me an old PSE lightning flite 2. It was missing a peep so I took it to a local bow tech that threw a peep sight in the string for me. I went to mess around and target shoot and felt that the peep was extremely high on the string from my anchor point. So, I moved the peep down closer to the d ring. I had it sighted in well then noticed my string had no twist in it at all so I decided to twist the string. I’m not gonna lie I used an AI to find out how many twist should in a 35” tear drop string. It said 28 so that what I did. It obviously threw my sights off and twisted my peep to where I can’t use it. My question is this. How far from d loop should peep sight be? I’ve also noticed all my sights and whiskers biscuit is sitting extremely low.

Always one fletch straight up with a biscuit!

Why not raise your target off the ground? I’m thinking it might eliminate the nock high your getting. How does a “whisker biscuit “ compare to a “bodoodle zapper x” in arrow flight and speed loss?

would you recommend doing this before messing with any sights. Im new to archery, been shooting all weekend and got my bow shooting decent groups....however they do kinda crooked thru the air. Im thinking now that i feel more comfortable shooting, i should do exactly this to get the bow shooting better

Yes! Always figure out your tune first, THEN sight in your bow.

@@averagejackarchery Ok I have another question about arrows. So i bought some basic arrows on amazon (just in case i damage some on accident) Anyway, Id like to know if they are the "correct" arrows you would recommend or not. I have a draw weight of 50lbs. i have a draw length of 30" The arrows i ordered are 30" shafts, plus tip making them 31.5 overall length. They are a 500 spine. 13 gpi. They seem to shoot fine, but have alot of wobble out of the bow (which is why i watched this video, I need to adjust my rest) anyway, i have some arrows that are the same length, 400 spine and 8.0 gpi. These are alot faster out of my bow. Both shoot about the same groups.... what arrows would you recommend. The 400 spine, 8.0 gpi arrows are alot more fun to shoot. They are alot faster it seems and have less wobble....however the 500 spine arrows are heavier and they might group slightly better

I recently picked up a whisker biscuit rest. Any tips on how to quiet the whisker biscuit while drawing? My gold-tip arrow shafts make quiet a bit of noise when being drawn over the whiskers.

Silicone based grease or spray! Doesn't break down plastics and is easy to work in to give the biscuit more slick on the end of the bristles.

Random question. Can you shoot natural feathers through a whisker biscuit?

Absolutely! Works great.

Hi, I just started archery and shoot left handed. I bought a whisker biscuit small because i am shooting .166 arrows at 60 pounds. I should mention I am shooting fingers. Maybe it’s my newb form but , My problem is that at 20 yards - all my arrows are hitting a foot to the left of where I aim, no matter if I move the biscuit left or right. Any advice? Edited!
