UPDATE:1 year and still cranks within the first 2-3 pulls. Probably will buy another when this one finally does bite the dust kzbin.infoUgkx43QMbQqu67IZadu9ou8Sg1BdrunMRNqX . No issues at all. Very happy with it.UPDATE: After 6 months of use and over 70 uses I would still highly recommend this pressure washer. It does vibrate a decent amount but never had it “walk” like others have mentioned. No oil leaks, still seems to run like the day I bought it. Still cranks within 2-3 pulls every time. Very happy with my purchase!Have used it about a dozen times now. Plenty of power, cranks up on 1-2 pulls every time. My only complaint would be I wish it was a little taller to make it easier to walk with it (hits my ankles a lot) and that the two hose connections were a little further apart but it hasn’t caused me any issues. Seems to run a good 1-1/2-2 hrs on a full tank, overall a well built machine and definitely worth the money in my opinion.

Just a tip, but it you take a standard bread twist tie and burn off the plastic coating with a lighter, it makes an excellent rod to use for cleaning orifices on a carb with. It is just the right size and can be used many times in the future.

About 6 yrs ago I bought a new riding mower. It looked just like the one in this video. I may have used it a total of 10 times. It had less than 25 hrs on it. Then someone set the house on fire. The fire got the living room an kitchen an part of the garage. About a year later I got to fooling around with the mower. All the wiring was burnt as well as the seat an steering wheel. So I got to fooling around with it, I took off all the wiring. The gas tank had melted, so I poured some gas down the carb. and jumped it off. And the thing started right up. I found another mower looked to be about the same thing, just not as in good of shape. It was all I could find at the time. Started swaping parts around and put together a half A** mower. It works but its nothing like what I had. But I am thankful for what I have. After I got the engine put onto the other mower I rebuilt the carb. changed the oil and air filters and for good measure put in a new plug. I use it last summer.

William Wynn I remember my dad bought a brand new one, a V twin about 18HP, it ended up being replaced with another after being stolen. He had about 1.5 acres on a slope and a remember a row of 1 gallon petrol cans by the gate when he was using it. My wife and I have much less money, we have about 1.5 acres on a slope too and I spent less than half as much as he did on an ancient Kubota B4200. It was only about 12HP, although it only used about a pint of diesel to do a very similar job, four wheel drive helped too.

The anti backfire solenoid on the bottom of the carburetor does not stop fuel from going into the float bowl , the float needle seat is what controls the amount of fuel that is allowed into the float bowl, as the fuel level rises in the float bowl the float raises up to the point that it pushes the inlet needle seat up into the main fuel inlet and seals the inlet closed until the fuel in the float bowl is used some and as the fuel level drops in the float bowl so does the float which allows the needle seat to drop down enough to allow fuel to refill the float bowl until it is full and the process repeats itself over and over ! The anti backfire solenoid is controlled by the ignition switch when it is turned on 12 volts is sent to the coil inside the anti backfire solenoid which creates a magnetic field that pulls the pin downward on the anti backfire solenoid itself ( located up inside the carburetor ) this allows fuel to enter the main jet located in the center of the carburetor, when the ignition switch is turned off the magnetic field dissipates and the rubber plug on the end of the pin goes back up to contact the Bottom of the main jet sealing it off so fuel cannot go through the main jet as the engine idles down to a stop ,, if fuel goes in the main jet as engine idles down to a stop it will be sucked into the intake manifold and the fuel will ignite inside the combustion chamber making a loud pop as it does ! This happens when people discover the anti backfire solenoid is bad , bad coil inside , and they cut the pin off the plunger of the anti backfire solenoid, or when the pin gets stuck in the down position which would be ignition on position ( which is rare but does happen due to ethanol gummed up pins ) and the mower will crank and run but when shut off will backfire because of the solenoid valve being open not closing off the fuel to the main jet !

Check your FUEL LINE for miniscule air leaks. They can be nearly impossible to detect and are usually in the area where the fuel line joins the carburetor. I found mine by accident when I happened to notice a tiny drop of fuel "hanging" off the fuel line. It evaporated before dripping (!). I sealed it off an the 'surging/hunting" went away.... no more running the engine with the choke half-on. :)

If you have some of the multi-strand copper wire, you can strip it and use a piece. Advantage of copper is it's softer than the jet and won't enlarge the hole. If you play the guitar, you can use the thinner E string to clean out the jets. If you don't play, you can still buy just that string from a music shop. It's long and flexible and won't take a permanent bend easily. Also the old wire bread ties you can strip off the paper with your fingernails and keep it handy in your toolbox for this. There ya go, 3 more sources if you're in a pinch.

Before you open it up. I would suggest making sure the air/fuel mixture screw has been adjusted. Usually screw it in till it stops (dont tighten it). Then unscrew it out 1.5 turns. See if that helps it before taking it apart. Ive had to do that before with china carbs.

Nikki carbs that have the main jet sitting on top of where the emulsion tube goes on the plastic float frame uses the spring to retain the jet..on the other ones, the main jet feeds into the emulsion tube orifice on the white Plastic float framer(?) ..the emulsion tube itself holds the jet in..so when you put these type together hold the plastic float frame upside down so the jet doesn't fall out until you get the rest of the carb seated.

A lot of time you can set the governor and fix a surging problem. People mess with the thinking they are getting more power or they just move over time and it will bounce off it causing a surge. I think 99% of the time the biggest problem small engines have is a dirty carb. Gas sits in them all winter and gums up.
@skiprope5367 жыл бұрын
I have found that 87 octane gas is the killer. I have switched to 89 after cleaning lines out to cure a surging issue after 5 years of running ok. The 89 helped cure my problem without having to rip the carb out and clean. 10 plus hours running great with the cheap fix. We shall see.
@carlosrobles20487 жыл бұрын
Skip Rope maybe coincidence also.
@47485ksc6 жыл бұрын
Actually, a mis-adjusted governor will NEVER cause hunting or "surging" as you kids call it. Any mechanical governor regulates engine speed. That's it. The only way hunting can be governor-related is if a twig or something has obstructed the linkage and/or is rubbing on the governor rod.
@47485ksc6 жыл бұрын
Run 32:1 premix and your gasoline problems are over. I've had 32:1 sitting in the tank (3/4 full) of my 1979 Yamaha SR500/650 since 2013 and it still fires right up. Of course I include octane booster in the tank. Using 32:1 eliminates accidently "straight-gassing" your 2 stroke equipment. Doesn't hurt to run in carbureted 4 strokes. Actually helps.

Nice video. As a suggestion, when spraying with carb cleaner, be very careful, if you get the cleaner on the rubber gasket, it will swell and then will be very difficult to re-install. I now remove the gasket out of harms way of the cleaner, then lightly oil gasket and replace. If you have by mistaken gotten cleaner on the gasket, you can try and put it in the freezer to see if it will return to its normal shape and size.

"The main purpose of the fuel solenoid is to allow gas into the carburetor bowl when the engine is on, but when the engine is off, it does not allow fuel into the bowl of the carburetor" WRONG, WRONG, WRONG. The solenoid has nothing, I will type it again, NOTHING to do with letting gas into the carburetor's bowl. Fuel enters the carburetors bowl via the float needle valve. All the solenoids purpose is to stop fuel from entering the main jet, so it doesn't backfire when you shut off the engine. Fuel can ALWAYS enter the bowl if the tractor is on, or off. IF the float needle valve fails and does not close all the way, gas will enter the engine or exhaust, on a Briggs motor, and on Kohler usually always the exhaust. This is why you should ALWAYS install an inline shut off on the fuel line and use it religiously.

How right you are Joe, after several "oil changes" more like fuel changes( crankcase FULL of gas) I installed a quality fuel shut-off, and float /needle kit ,end of problem, and yes I have to make sure to check it after the kids mow the lawn!
@joeganusi85224 жыл бұрын
@@pennyan2057 yes indeed, nobody quite understands how the fuel enters the carb, ending up with a crankcase worth of fuel. I actually knew of a house the burned down because of a carb that leaked out into the exhaust through the muffler and onto the floor. The owner had a battery charging close by which inginited the fumes from the gasoline and started a fire which destroyed the house. Install those shut offs!!! ;)

@@joeganusi8522 Hi joe, can you direct me to where i can get this Inline shut off for my 18hp B&S Intek? should i also scrap the white fuel filter since you can't see into it and replace it with a clear one? thx man
@joeganusi85224 жыл бұрын
@@harpoon_bakery162 you can get them on ebay or amazon. Here is a link to one on ebay. www.ebay.com/itm/182920775127 You can out the bigger clear filters on. Just watch out for the cheap ones and install them the correct direction. Clear part towards fuel tank, end cap towards carb.

Instead of using wires from a wire brush, use a set of guitar strings to clear carb. ports holes. One set will last you like crazy, and will fit any size jet hole on a carb. so even the walls of the jets sides are cleaned as well. A wire from a wire brush, doesn't alwas fully open up the jet holes, as required. He should have also placed the carb., in a can of "Gunk" for a short while, to help get rid of any sticky mass build-up within the jet ports, and channels. Blow clean with a high pressure air hose afterwards. Brings the carb. back into new like condition both inside, and outside. …. I might add, the main cause of the "rushing", or "engine wandering speed", is mainly caused by a dirty, or plugged idle jet. Engine is running too lean, and is being starved of fuel.

I bought a Craftsman riding mower from a friend at their yard sale for $120. Brought it home and put a battery, a solenoid, and cleaned the carburetor. That machine runs like a top. However I had this surging problem crop up on me. I tinkered with it and looked all over for the problem but found nothing. I went to try to start it and it wouldn't fire. Then I choked it and it fired right off and then ran smoothly. I have no idea what it was. But it runs fine again.

You installed the linkage upside down at the black cam plate on the carb...good price for the rider.

Nice video, but my Briggs engine is a little different. Could the problem also be caused by a deteriorated seat for the needle in the float?

You are too cool!!! Not my problem, I have a small B&S lawnmower that does this, but I'm looking for a deal on a riding lawnmower with this problem just so I can watch this again...! :)

Put a new carb on and surges, does it need disassembled and cleaned? Governor rod moves back and forth and surges. Thanks for the video

Im grabbing a cold drink and taking a moment to subscribe and say thanks for the video and please continue to convey your topics just like the carb surge breakdown. after a solid week of making ready for 5 ugly months of central Fl. lawn mowing(it rains every damn day and the stuff they call grass here would be tugged up and burned in most of The country but it keeps the sand from blowing in the pool.)Missing a mowing here can end up being a bush hog weekend and my craftsman 17 hp from the dead neighbor garage sale was not even remotely motivated to sign on for 2018 without belts ,battery, blades deck bearings and tires all on one trip. two weekends to r and r the parts and im Down by 2 + mowings and the bush hog flyers are being wedged in the screen door . The start up killed the battery. and when it finally began to blubber on its own it wasn't a sound that instilled confidence. woom ahh...woom ahh.... blubber woom pop then dying with a series of fip fip fip and a final ahh with no woom. This wasn't gonna clear out with starting fluid. ... a fresh fuel filter and your video put it right .didnt really need to watch. you pretty much talked me through the teardown and back together and the tool sizes you specified made it all click ..and there ain't been a lot of clicking around here. Im sure I would have got it dealt with by shear tenacity and a another cash infusion this weekend but I wanted you to know that you knocked one way into them center field upper deck 2 for 1 seats. And I thank you.

Mt B/ S 19.5 hp Craftsman mower sat up for 18 months and I had to replace the battery. It runs but not well. Popping not smooth. I use ethanol free fuel and Startron fuel additive. As a precaution drained the fuel tank and put new ethanol free fuel and Startron, I removed the float bowl and it was spotless. I buttoned it up , changed the fuel filter and cleaned the air filter and prefilter. It starts right up but is popping. Fore it sat up it ran fine. I I hope it will smooth out in time but can you offer any suggestions besides taking the carb off- a pita, could the solenoid be causing the popping, I assume it’s lean.

most of the time i can fix surging by just adding a little berryman's b-12 chemtool to the fuel.it is a lot cheaper than seafoam and does a good job. if that does not work then i go into the carb and clean it but most of the time it is not necessary.
@brucemorris63195 жыл бұрын
I hate the ethanol gas it sure plays hell on lawnmower. A guy that works on mowers told me to get card cleaned like you did then keep a little sea foam mixed with the gas to help it to stay clean.
@railrider47456 жыл бұрын
to tight valve lash setting will cause surging as well.... seafoam will usually clear carb. IF used properly.....
