Once I created a design phrase starting with "In this moment..." well, it turns out that the phrase "in this moment" has a trademark/copyright on it. Amazon picked that out right away and declined my design. I was so mad, so I went back and made it "In this VERY moment..." and then it went through. Now I always check before I design. Great video tutorial Greg - thanks for all your content. Much appreciated.

Around 12:25 when you check for trademark rights and see no infringement , do you ever copyright phrases in addition to moving ahead to creating designs? Hope that made sense
@GregGottfriedАй бұрын
Great question! I have in the past but it didn’t pay off. It was about $500 per trademark when I did it and nothing really came from it. The good thing is if you don’t formally trademark/copyright a design, but someone still comes along and copies your design, if it’s too close of a copycat you can report it to the POD marketplace and they will remove it as a copycat design (all without you having to pay to formally protect the design).

Hi Greg, I have an Etsy question.. I am planning to open an apparel store for Dog lovers wherein I will be putting designs for Top 19 Top dog breeds in U.S.A and the 20th section would be dedicated to other dog breeds.. Now my question is that Should I only put 1 product that is t-shirts on my store OR Should I rather have 2-3 products (t-shirts, mugs, blankets) under each dog breed section to give the customer more buying options and thereby also increase my Average Order Value? I would appreciate your response, thanks!

Great video, Greg! Thanks for sharing.👍 I have a question. Are you considering the number in the Amazon SV column when deciding which niches to choose? Is there a range of searches do we must keep in mind? More than 1000, 2000, or very high searches? Or, in the contrary, less than X quantity of searches?

I have a question: the two niches you showed, after school teacher and anatomy teacher, they both had an A but such low search volume (18 and 7 per month), would they even be worth the hassle? If only one of them most likely would buy a shirt, the effort is way too high for the presumed outcome.
@GregGottfriedАй бұрын
Excellent question! Going into the big niches with thousands of monthly sales is great but near impossible to rank as a new listing. A couple years ago that was the way to do it, but now they are over saturated and have their “permanent” first page listings. If however you go into these smaller niches, you can rank of the first page and get a couple sales per month from each. Let’s just say you get 5 sales per month from each niche, that’s about $20 profit per month on each POD marketplace you upload to (I’d recommend the top 3 sites) so about $60 per month profit. Now if you go into 100 of those niches (not very hard to do) that could be $6000 per month profit. I hope that makes sense and helps explain how these small niches are much easier to get sales in and they add up very quickly 👍
@letmeeeentertainyouАй бұрын

You are correct, with that low of a search volume it would be a waste of time. You want to find trending keywords that have a reasonable search volume but still also a reasonably low competition.

What happens if I pick a phrase that is not trademarked and start using it on apparel and selling and then at some time in the future someone else does the same search and finds that that phrase is not trademarked and then they trademark it without me knowing will my designs be in violation of trademark?
@GregGottfriedАй бұрын
Great question. Technically, yes they would own the right to it, but you have already been using it before they trademarked it so they don't have any rights to your profits. This is a very rare occurrence because it's expensive to trademark a phrase (I paid about $500 last time). It's kind of just a nuance to this business model, but I wouldn't overthink it. As a side note, if you leave all your phrases in the Merch Informer trademark alerts list, they will auto check them for new trademarks every 24 hours (so you'll be able to see if any of yours are now trademarked). I hope that makes sense and is helpful!

I have a simple question. You have like 650000 followers. Let's say just 50000 saw this (awesome) video. And let's say only 5000 of them try this strategy Tomorrow we will have like 5k or more tshirts uploaded, all similar if not ideantical. At this point the A for competition becomes a Z, and probabiy none of the listing will see a sell. Am I wrong?
@GregGottfriedАй бұрын
Good question! The short answer is only a handful of people end up putting it to use. The longer answer is something like 99.9% of people who watch will have a reason why they can’t do it, so they push it off until ‘the time is right’ which unfortunately never happens. That’s kind of the case for all online businesses not just print on demand. I do typically get to chat with those who put it to use in the comments, and they come back to say it worked and to say thank you (but it’s definitely only a very select few that put things into action). I hope that helps shed some light on this 👍
