Just to clarify, select the object then hold the Ctrl key while pressing the period key ( the full stop with the "greater than" symbol above it). Cheers bro.

the locations of everything and tools are so hidden in blender sometimes. you just gotta remember it. the good thing about blender though is the huge community who will answer your question within minutes if you have one. maya and others just dont have the blender userbase which is its biggest asset

Switching from Maya to blender , This is the only one that was hard for me to search for on internet lol. In maya we called this one custom axis ( Holding D + V to snap axis or pivot point to vertex ). Thanks a bunch, been switching to blender for like 2 years now, it's always bugging me until now lol.
@StrongmanLi-pz7sl8 ай бұрын
there is a 3d artist called bob who made a video called Maya to Blender survival guide, he introduced his methods to change pivots, which is quite amazing, that makes maya user much much more comfortable than ever if people could use his pref file. you can go and check.

111K views. Only a few million to go so everyone knows. I saw a video a little while ago where it had "the easiest" way to move the origin point to various parts of the object. As soon as he moved the 3D cursor to the object, I almost fainted. He proceeded to do a few more steps, and finally, he had a box with a lid/hinge. Of course I couldn't wait to post the Ctrl + period shorcut! I should have posted the link to this vid, so I'll do that next time, too. Anyway, I'd also like to add that once in pivot mode, it will follow all the snapping rules, too! So you can snap it to edges, verts, faces, other objects, etc. There are 3 videos comprising 200 blender tips I need to go post this link to. Thanks again for finding this. I use it every day for almost every object.

If you click on the little screwdriver and wrench icon in the properties panel for the move tool, you can assign a keybind to this function by going to options, transform, affect only (origins), right click, add shortcut. Hope this helps someone.
