I appreciate if you could explain the following please; when your biceps concentrically contract do your triceps eccentrically contract at the same time? if not what causes the triceps to stretch while biceps contract? @Corporis

Videos like you guys are the best thing to come out of the internet world. I wish i had this type of learning available when i was at school. Learning via videos work much better than listening to a human trying to keep sane and controlling a class of 40 pupils every day. I'm now 37 and learning things i would never have discovered passion for without videos like these. thanks

I can't believe how complicated concentric, isometric and eccentric muscles contraction is! Than we need to pinpoint individual muscles and describe the nature of the motion for the different anatomical movements in the three planes of human movement; I did not foresee that exercise science would be this nuanced! Overall, I'm enjoying this field of study and this is a very nicely made vid, thank you!

How are isotonic contractions explained with the length-tension curve? I thought that tensions vary depending on the length of the muscle, so wouldn't a true isotonic contraction be impossible?

in the first example of isometric, you said force from muscle = from resistance, but if you hold a dumbell in a bicep curl like 12 pounds how is that equal to resistance from the muscle? Is it because from a resistance which is not moving in motion? Also in non- isometric motion if you have a heavy weight why is that your muscle cannot produce the same force?
@Corporis
@Corporis 3 жыл бұрын
This is a good question! The first example is an isometric contraction because your bicep is producing the same amount of force to lift the dumbbell as the dumbbell exerts from its weight. Your bicep *could* produce more force, but at that moment, it's producing exactly as much force as is required to hold the dumbbell in place. As for your second question, would you mind clarifying? Are you asking why we can't lift very heavy weights?

So the gym advisor's "resistance training" burns less energy but produces more force than contracting the muscles would?
@Corporis

Yes! Both on the microscopic filament level AND the macroscopic level. This master's thesis paper from 2016 compared exercise programs consisting of entirely concentric, eccentric, or mixed exercise and found that concentric exercise overwhelming consumed more energy than eccentric. etd.ohiolink.edu/apexprod/rws_etd/send_file/send?accession=kent1479465117642973&disposition=inline

Mystery to me why this field pronounces "eccentric" as E-cen-tric. Pretty eccentric, ya think?
@Shickelgruber
@Shickelgruber 3 ай бұрын
The pronunciation of "eccentric" as **ee-SEN-trik** rather than **ek-SEN-trik** is due to its Latin origin. The prefix "ecc-" comes from Latin "ex-" meaning "out of" or "away from," and "centric" comes from the Greek "kentron," meaning "center." Over time, English pronunciation adapted to the more common Latin root, where "ecc-" is pronounced like **ee**, not **ek**. ~Reddit.

Great in theory, not practical though. Concentric uses far less energy because it takes a fraction of the time as eccentric. Get strong at concentric and isometric, the muscle will accommodate it self as necessary.

Lord Jesus is the Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords. He is the way, the truth, and the life and no man cometh unto the father but by him alone. He'll give you everything you need, (dwelling) in him there is grace, forgiveness, peace, wisdom, and life; as well as love, strength, and light. God is not mocked! what you sow you will reap. Fear God! repent and believe in him.PRAY ALWAYS!As John 3:18 says He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. Colossians 3 King James Version 3 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. 2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.

EEEEEcentric is not a word anywhere in the English language. Eccentric means ‘away from the center’. A crazy person is called eccentric bc they are ‘away from the center of normality’. A ‘negative’ movement of an exercise is a movement of the tendons ‘away from the center of the muscle’. It makes perfect sense from an etymological standpoint. Mispronouncing it as eeeecentric would mean ‘without a center’, which makes no sense. Another line of logic proving that it must be pronounced eK-Sen-Trik is that the first syllable is ‘ec’, which can only be pronounced ‘ek’ in English. There’s no possibility of a silent ‘c’. There’s no controversy regarding how to pronounce ‘centric’. So, the word is pronounced, eK-Sen-Trik. But don’t take my word for it! Look it up in literally any English dictionary.
