No you don’t. I rent a Home Depot flatbed. They’re usually a F-250 equipped with a 6.2L V8, rear wheel drive and a tow hitch. I pin my own draw bar and shackle on it. Low gear. Have never had a problem.

Don’t put the strap so low on the base. If you keep the strap about a foot above the base, it will pull right out. The lower the strap, the more torque needed to pull the bush. That’s been helpful for me anyway.

Nice job. I have done many extractions like this. My tools were a Ram 2500 in 2WD, and a 10 foot long heavy load chain with a loop to form a slip knot on the target bush. I linked the chain to a 1/2 inch length of braided rope which I looped onto my trailer ball, slow and steady pulls only. Soaking the ground for 10-15 minutes makes it even easier. Sago palms, azaleas, boxwoods, Indian Hawthornes don’t stand a chance. What you do with a 300 pound shrub is another problem.

One option is it run the strap through one of the loops and it will choke itself on the bush and you will end up with only on loop to put on the truck

People have been killed when the ball hitch snaps and it gets slingshotted back, including a man in Arizona last August. It's not meant to have that kind of lateral stress, especially when trying to jerk something free. There are better ways to hook up the tow straps that are safer. Some guys in Australia have videos on this and it's pretty alarming to see what can happen. Please be safe out there.

A dodge won’t have worked unfortunately. The reason being they don’t have the root pulling package available from the factory. You’d have to fabricate this and then find a way to attach it to the dodge frame - which leads you to another useless sentence! Lol jk ! Dodge definitely would have worked ! Hahaha Thanks for the comment BTW -Mike

Why have you ripped out all the bushes around your house? You’re not alone in doing this. You can tell a neighborhoods wealth by whether they have bushes or not! The rich always have bushes. The upper middlle class have bushes. Lower middle class will rip outt bushes. Poor people may have flowers or shrubs but almost never have bushes. What do you think? Curb appeal is REAL! When you go to sell your house a landscaped yard is always worth alot more. Poverty is a choice. Sometimes in order to break free from it, you have to do something your parents did or didn’t.
