This looks so good! I am trying to absorb every word hoping I can remember everything. I love swimming but I am new to it. However, it’s still twenty minutes a day that I really enjoy. 😊😊

I subscribed to your vimeo course. It's excellent and very comprehensive. I found the various drills very useful and gave me a great feeling of buoyancy. One thing I struggled with is keeping my face looking down. A few years ago, I had radiotherapy treatment for tonsil cancer which left me with reduced mobility in my neck muscles. I can keep my neck and spine aligned which means although I can't keep facing the bottom of the pool and my head turns in line with my torso, I can maintain a straight neck which has the same effect of keeping my hips and feet from sinking. On the plus side, I find the OW technique much easier and relaxed and I am getting more speed for less effort. I also feel a tremendous difference in eliminated stress to my shoulder joints and associated muscles. Also, following your drills has helped me relax as previously, my whole body felt very tense. I am so very glad I found your videos on youtube. Many ,many thanks.

Just came across this style & tried it first time today, omg! Post swim shoulders feel ok & not duffed up. First session gone from 22/24 s/l to 18s/l, reduced by 4!!! It's different, it's feels right, having to think hard, will ease into it, going slowly. Thank you OAW, will look for a class/training session.

My glide is currently on average 2m:15cm on 50 SPM which I suppose is quite good for someone only 5'6" tall. I cannot wait to try this technique as I have the same shoulder issue.

I’m a relatively new swimmer. I’ve been trying so hard to have a proper “pool stroke” as I am training for a triathlon. I was always tired, barely swimming anywhere honestly, and already had a sore shoulder within months. I discovered your channel and it has changed everything. I was at 24 strokes or more for only 22 meters, and today I was consistently between 16-18 strokes and felt like I could have gone all day. Love the channel and appreciate you putting this out. Oh, and no more shoulder soreness.

I'm from Brazil . I love swim alone in open sea , 3km . I see yours videos to improve my crawl style. 7 moths ago I injured my right shoulder while swiming . After fisiotherapy sessions I returned . I'm 45 . Could you make a video to show the submerse phase ( the arm / forearm/ elbow) position ?

Do you teach other strokes apart from the front crawl?
@Rory6262 жыл бұрын
Subscribed to the Vimeo this month and it's changed my stroke completely. Nearly doubled the distance I'm able to swim to over 3km! Do you teach any of the other strokes Adam?
@adamwalker322 жыл бұрын
Brilliant to hear. Yes I teach other strokes but I focus on front crawl 👍

Is it 90 degrees total or to either side, meaning that the shoulder of the upper arm is pointing at the sky?
@adamwalker32 Жыл бұрын
Shoulder of the upper arm will be pointing towards the sky, that’s correct

Very impressed with the logic here. Geriatric IM here who had a disastrous swim in Kona this year and wants to improve by 2025 when I go up to the 80 to 84 year group. Questions. If I sign up for the monthly access to Vimeo - what is to stop me downloading ALL your "bon mots" of wisdom and then leaving? It seems a commercial no no from your point of view. What is the advantage of following the course sign up?
@adamwalker322 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comments. I add more videos /drills each month to help master the stroke. There’s lots of instruction. It sits on Vimeo so you can’t download them and can access through Vimeo 👍 my goal though is for people to learn it and feel the benefit as it changed my life.

Do you lift your elbows the same distance? I am not sure if is possible lif both elbows exactly the same amount The other thing is how to determine the number of strokes before breathing: is three the best?

On this, it looks as though you breath on alternate strokes, only breathing on your left? I thought the idea was to breath on both sides? Thank you for this, I have it in my head when I’m swimming to try to model what I’m seeing. Beautifully smooth.
@adamwalker322 жыл бұрын
In this video but others you will see to the right every two and bilateral in a race. It doesn’t matter as I’m balanced so no head lifting and over use of neck muscles.

Yes looking down brings natural elevation in the hips, but getting air is that hard part when you're body is horizontal looking down. It saying I can't get the air but I end up twisting slightly for it. So hard so technical is swimming.
@adamwalker322 жыл бұрын
With a reasonable foot flick will create momentum and that lifts me up to breathe without lifting my head
@TarmoLauri2 жыл бұрын
It's all very nice and everybody would like to swim like that but I think there are some obsticles. Adults, who have not grown up together with swimming have usually quite serious mobility issues, specially around shoulders. How to overcome that problem? I have understood, that mobility plays crucial role in swimming. I always feel tension in my shoulders and neck while swimming front crawl. I quess that causes my hips and legs to sink.
@videofan7922 жыл бұрын
I understand your comment completely because I broke both my shoulders about three years ago and I have limited range of motion. I stretch my arms as much as possible but I am a little limited because of this. I am hoping that things will improve with time and meanwhile I am happy to be swimming and becoming fitter. 😊😊
@adamwalker322 жыл бұрын
The stroke was designed to take pressure off the shoulders and neck as I had 2 operations and advised to never swim again by my surgeon. It saw me across 6 more channel swims. It helps people with mobility issues as you don’t have to lift arm overhead due to the natural elevation of the shoulders as you swim side to side. It’s a semi circle motion which works within the shoulders range. My mobility is poor but I can swim 17 hours non stop with this stroke. The pulling arm is deeper so no pressure on the shoulders. Also hips are high due to the body position on your side. There’s much more to it but it’s a stroke that works for the ageing body 👍

You must mean we have 90 degrees of movement, we move to and from about 45 degrees on each side, not that we're completely vertical (90 degree angle). I've heard people say that over-rotation can lead to shoulder injury because we have to keep our propulsion arm straight which leads to strain on the shoulder.
@adamwalker322 жыл бұрын
Each rotation I finish on my side. I have drills to teach this. My core balances me I don’t need my front arm for balance, this is relaxed . My head is still and I have the correct alignment also learnt through drills, therefore no over rotation. I had a severe shoulder injury which is why I swim this way. Checkout oceanwalkeruk.com

Weights, weights, then some more. Without intrinsic power you can do nothing. For those over 40, intermittent fasting will assist muscle and mitochondria gain.
