Thanks! This worked for me! In my experience, I did not have to delete my saves after the first attempt (red ring “freeze”). I just restarted the Xbox and went straight back to the memory unit, and then the soft modding tool opened!

you have to use an ftp client/server like filezilla to do this part, no USB required

It’s best tutorial to unlock Xbox Original in 2024! Currently it’s a very hard to found a flash drive with 512 MB, really is worst part of tutorial, 😂 But works fine for me, now I need to install a new hard drive to make my OG Xbox a definitive version, thank’s Coulter. Greetings from Brazil!!!

Hey bro I finally got it to work and got past the fatexplorer, anyways when I loaded the usb, the screen froze and scared the crap out of me because I had flashing green and red light with error 21 thinking I fucked it up, but I turned it off and it booted up thank God, but same thing happens, why?

@@maurizio3259 I fixed the problem, had to delete game saves and other files like music and whatnot off the main hdd, then I loaded fatexplorer again and transferred the files again(incase the files didnt fully transfer). Then booted it up and after 2 tries it worked. If it flashes red/green just power off and restart again. Once the red light is solid, press the eject button and it should restart/boot into the softmod menu. Goodluck.

You know, im honestly surprised no one is selling xbox memory cards with the files on it already like sony users have with Free Mcboot memory cards. I mean make really im sure dozens of people could even just make sd to xbox memory card adapters even so you could just port it over. Sell them with an acient 256mb-1gb sd card with the files pre loaded or for people to put the files on.

After installing this same dashboard, I noticed FTP stops working. Anyone seeing the same thing? I can reproduce this by reloading Rocky5, FTP works great on the stock Rocky dashboard, then as soon as I install the same dashboard mentioned in this video, FTP stops working. I can connect via Filezilla, but get an error that it cannot browse the directories. Thoughts anyone?

highly unlikely, hardmod is hard modded into motherboard, it is likely possible but when you hardmod you remove and change where power goes in the motherboard, so unless you’re willing to reverse the hardmod and replace everything that has already been changed, it is permanent

@@Alexkander66 it’s something to do with the usb being 1.1 and also just no compatibility. You have to open the whole Xbox and put a bigger hard drive in, then you can FTP the games onto it

The Xbox will tell you if it's cool with the flash drive pretty fast (the pulsing screen or error message meaning no) so worth a try :)

You don't need either if you have a Memory Stick Pro Duo card with a card reader that supports it (a PSP works wonders for this), or a cellphone that is rooted and has DriveDroid installed, and DriveDroid Companion installed if your Android OS is 12 or later.

Technically any PATA hard drive will work, but there are the extra steps of prepping it with the drive signature files we backed up in the video - I'll have to cover that in a video soon :)

Worked great the first time transferring files over the network... tried right after and now all i get is *failed to parse returned path** *failed to retrieve directory listing*

Hmm that's odd - might just need to reconnect/refresh your FTP program. Worst case the good 'ol IT solution of turn everything off/on again should help it along 😁 Could also be a disk space issue as most Xboxes only have about 5 gigs of storage - planning to upgrade mine soon

@CoulterPeterson so the issue was is I changed the dashboard to the OG style, forgot the name, but it's the one that looks like the default xbox dashboard. If it's set to that you won't be able to connect to it. Has the be the Xbox unleash or whatever the softmod dashboard is called

Yeah, for anyone about to try a softmod. I used Splinter Cell, & tried for 5 days straight with no answers as to why it just hung when trying to initiate the exploit from the game. Turned out, having the DLC was the issue, deleted it, the exploit then just worked. So if you do have stuff on your hard drive that you really don't want to delete like I did, start with the least important stuff, the DLC is still available through XBMC anyhow now. Also, it might just be worth your time ebaying a cheap Xbox & just modchipping it so you can safely backup all your files that matter by just swapping your HDD into the Hard Modded modded 1
