@machinerin151 as opposed to what? The xbox is 40 pins. He's saying you are supposed to use an 80 wires, 40 pin cable since the higher udma modes the adapter uses will be more suseptible to noise. I soft modded mine and it's still working perfectly, I have all games up to N64 and even if I can't run Shadows of the empire, my N64 died before this beast... I did a whole video on soft modding but I got it taken down like 20 years ago... it's awesome, I've used it in the last year, hotkeys (buttons) work and it's pretty much an SNES9x/NES/N64/Sega/MAME/PS1/XBMC workhorse there are others, but I can't believe a $300 machine is still so fun to bring on vacation to play Mario Kart 64 and/or random mods with family. I think it is actually one of the first times my family saw 1080p content downloaded on the TV. It was a proof of concept and the TV didn't have computer input... okay I've made my point. EVERY SINGLE GAME. EDIT: I still can't find Doki Doki Panic rom (the one that Nintendo skinned to make Mario 2 US version... hmu if you have it.

I would also recommend the Brook Wingman XB2 adapter along with an original xbox controller cable to usb. This allows you to connect an Xbox one and Series Controllers to the original xbox which work better than the S controller. You can also use that adapter on an xbox 360 as well.

MVG OG Xbox video? Nice! Also, I just rock the clock cap back and forth until it comes off, I think this is safer than using clippers cause as you said you could damage something else if you're not careful. Thanks for the video! You got me into Xbox modding

You can get a complete cap replacement kit for the mainboard and PSU. Replacing the fan with a silent one is also a good idea. And if you're fancy you can get a IDE to SATA adapter and install an SSD.

This video was a great watch, really exciting to see old hardware get upgraded for ease of use for modern enviroments. I am quite impressed by the modders that upgraded the RAM aswell as putting a 1.4 Ghz CPU in there. Apparently the performance gains for games are quite noticeable.

I've always used unleash x as my dashboard, but I've also got an old setup. I would love to modernize the console, add more memory, and see if a mod chip can bios switch between standard Xbox and chihiro but I don't even know if that's a thing they can do now. When I was still active and the Xbox scene was in its prime, that was a thing people were rumored to be working on

Ahh the good old day's. When Halo matchmaking was battle of the mods past level 38ish. Whatever modder got host connection won with their hacks. Non host hacks were broken due to it being the map file served from on the hosts machine.

I did a soft mod recently. I believe it was a variant of this rocky5 setup but the one I used needed my splinter cell to load a save file. I did however have to go through about a dozen various usb sticks/microSD adapters until I found one that was JUST old enough to work. It was a quirky ancient microSD adapter to usb. Allowed everything to work flawlessly paired with the controller cord to usb input cable I bought. With a softmod and patience for ftp transfers, you probably only need to add a new HDD and you’ll be good to go. Component cable output to RT4K makes for an excellent picture.

@7:10, should be noted with the new Endgame exploit, specific games are not required to softmod anymore. Just a way to get the save on the Xbox console (USB adapter or Memory Card transfer from another modded Xbox)

I modded my Xbox 20 years ago with a solderless chip. I'll have to pull it out again and power it up to make sure it works still. I did recently upgrade the hard drive to a SATA drive with adapter. Mine has EvolutionX dashboard. I wish the websites I used for the information were still around, though I might check the wayback machine. I am amazed that I was able to get my Xbox modded the way it is. I could not tell you where I would have to begin as for the real modding process now. I may look for the clock capacitor though.

I bought an Xbox at the thrift store a few years ago for $30 CAD with a 20% off coupon because I donated some clothes. It had a weird sticker on the front so I googled what it said only to find out it was a badge for a mod chip. I booted it up and sure enough, the thing was already chipped lol Now the mod chip was a fairly old one but it still did the bulk of what I wanted. Absolute win for a thrift store buy.

I got a modded Xbox for christmas in 2003 when I was 10 years old, and I remember being completely in awe at the fact I could just borrow a friend's game and copy it over to mine and have it forever. If I'm honest it still blows me away that you could do that with 2003 technology.

My OG Xbox runs XBMC with a KODI style skin. I used to run it with the XB360 blades skin but KODI all greened out seems to just be cleaner and easier to navigate. I also have an Avaluanch xbe that I can boot from KODI so that I can use the PC app to transfer games. I also have Insignia set up and a 1tb HDD. Since I expanded the HDD I have about 40 games on there and extra room for movies/TV shows that are in 4:3 SD. It's quite the all in one box for me. 💚

Hard to believe that the original Xbox is 23 years old. When it was new a 23 year old console would be the Atari VCS which seemed like an antique by 2001.

Can reaffirm MVG's statement on the Startech SATA/IDE bridge, though not with the Xbox as I don't yet own one. Every time I've used another SATA/IDE converter on my legacy Windows 98/95 systems I've had so many issues I've switched to Startech because they always work as advertised. Buy once, cry once.
