I bought an Xbox at the thrift store a few years ago for $30 CAD with a 20% off coupon because I donated some clothes. It had a weird sticker on the front so I googled what it said only to find out it was a badge for a mod chip. I booted it up and sure enough, the thing was already chipped lol Now the mod chip was a fairly old one but it still did the bulk of what I wanted. Absolute win for a thrift store buy.

I got a modded Xbox for christmas in 2003 when I was 10 years old, and I remember being completely in awe at the fact I could just borrow a friend's game and copy it over to mine and have it forever. If I'm honest it still blows me away that you could do that with 2003 technology.

Ah you missed the days of 8 bit when games were on cassette, just put the original in a double deck boombox with a blank in the other and away you go. My whole collection was copied

My OG Xbox runs XBMC with a KODI style skin. I used to run it with the XB360 blades skin but KODI all greened out seems to just be cleaner and easier to navigate. I also have an Avaluanch xbe that I can boot from KODI so that I can use the PC app to transfer games. I also have Insignia set up and a 1tb HDD. Since I expanded the HDD I have about 40 games on there and extra room for movies/TV shows that are in 4:3 SD. It's quite the all in one box for me. 💚

Hard to believe that the original Xbox is 23 years old. When it was new a 23 year old console would be the Atari VCS which seemed like an antique by 2001.

This looks amazing, nice dashboard and the auto title update feature is very nice. Is there a reason for the spin HDD and not an SSD? I have a couple of 2 TB SATA SSDs I'm not using, so they would be amazing for one of my old Xboxes.

Great video, MVG. I really need to get an OG Xbox, and mod it.

Not really related to the video but you can tell MVG has lost a fair amount of weight since getting serious about it. Very cool and inspiring to see 👍

I got one untested for 20usd at goodwill. Totally worked with the cables I have. Came pre modded too. It was an old install and I was able to update by burning a disc. Just gotta get an adapter for a new HDD and upgrade ide cable. Not in any real hurry. Got two PS2s, a PC, a gba sp, an N64, and a PS1 I'm in the process of fixing too lol

Me and few friends did this in the late 2000s. Had every from the Atari 2600 up through the N64.

For the molex connectors on my original xbox, i just get a pair of tweezers and put each prong on each side of the molex connector and i just disconnect it that way, its so much easier than with your fingers.

Can reaffirm MVG's statement on the Startech SATA/IDE bridge, though not with the Xbox as I don't yet own one. Every time I've used another SATA/IDE converter on my legacy Windows 98/95 systems I've had so many issues I've switched to Startech because they always work as advertised. Buy once, cry once.
