Easily Catch DELICIOUS Southern Flathead On Soft Plastics: Targeting Sandies & Blue-Spots

Southern sand flathead and blue-spot flathead take over from duskies in shallow, inshore waters around the bottom half of Australia. You can use very similar techniques to target them, and they're at least as tasty as their northern cousins!

On Sharky Beach at Coledale, when I was a teenager, I caught a Grassy Flathead. It was green. There's an extensive, shallow ribbon weed bed there that's very snaggy, so obviously never received a lot of fishing pressure.

Thank you! Yes, the eastern blue-spotted flathead is very closely related to the southern variety, but doesn't grow quite as big. It's the one we catch offshore (and occasionally from the beach) along the NSW coast and often call a sand flathead... just to confuse things! It ranges from about Moreton Bay in QLD to Lakes Entrance in Victoria.

True enough, although a fairly academic argument these days, with slot sizes and maximum limits. My favourite eaters are in the 45 to 55cm range.
