The EMP shield looks like marketing play on words. It appears to be a TVSS, which is very different from an EMP shielding system. TVSS protects against voltage surges which can result from an EMP discharge, HV electrical lines shorting, a car runs into a transformer pole etc. An EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) radiates wirelessly. It is very much like your WiFi signal, or any radio wave, but extremely powerful. It comes into contact with everything and does not need wires to be conducted. So there is the EMP magnetic field, which is transmitted (moving) and when it comes into contact with any conductor be it a fence wire, electrical wire, conductive paths inside your watch, circuit boards, electrical or electronic devices, it induces an extremely high current, which will burn everything out, and render the device useless. A TVSS will protect against a high voltage surge that is conducted by wires to a device through the power leads or ground, but itself will be destroyed by the high current induced by an EMP pulse. A TVSS will not help you with an EMP....actually not many things can. The only way to help protect against an EMP is to encase the entire device to be protected in a shielded grounded enclosure. You want to conduct the magnetic field away from the device. So for example if you want to protect your digital watch from an EMP, you place it in a special conductive bag and this is only rated for a certain EMP power. This is why military electronics is encased in special enclosures, with special connectors and ground shielding, even the cables to the device is shielded with some magnetically conductive and grounded material. But these too are only rated for a certain EMP flux power. So you want to protect your Car against an EMP? If you suspect the area is going nuclear and an EMP is eminent, disconenct your car battery. All the electronics must be dead/unpowered, even parasitic devices in the car which may have smaller backup batteries has to be removed. The Car's ECU may even have a "watch type" battery to retain memory, this too has to be removed. The car must be electrially dead. After the EMP has passed, you can connect back your battery and the car should work. This is still not guaranteed, but your best bet. Shielding from an EMP is never guaranteed due to its enormous flux energy This is a much bigger conversation to be had, but I leave you with the words "caveat emptor".

I agree with you. A better solution would be an emergency battery cut off switch. main problem solved but you are correct the main computer will most likely have some type of battery in it that would either need to be fully discharged or shielded

Hi Billy! We did some research on this product line. We contacted our local power supplier, electricians and even a generator company and they all basically told us the same thing. I will share one of their responses. “I looked into this product and feel it is nothing more than a glorified surge protector that will protect your home from a surge caused from a fault or lightning strike on a power line, phone or cable line coming into the home. But even the best manufacturers of these products will tell you that there surge protection will not cover a direct strike. This is because the amount of high voltage induced into the home through the atmosphere from just a lightning bolt hitting a tree within 100 feet of the home can cause tens of thousands of amps in fault current to be induced into the homes electrical system. I've actually seen this a few times where the receptacles and switches were blown out of the walls. An EMP, especially from an bomb or explosion in the atmosphere designed to create an EMP could be 100 times worse than that caused from lightning and from a much broader range. Even a Faraday Shield won't protect your home if you could build one. For example; if you wrapped your entire home in aluminum foil you would create a Faraday Shield. However, due to the atmospheric induced fault current into the power, phone and cable lines coming into the home, one would need a Faraday Shield around them as well to protect your home from an EMP. I am however impressed with the misleading marketing efforts of EMP Shield.” I really wanted this company to do what I hoped it said it could. I am concerned about a grid down situation. Hope this is helpful information to you.
