This just made my day! I had made a vertical gradient with a repeat/stacked custom font using the opacity slider making each consecutive one progressively more transparent than the one below it ... but needed it to be halftone for screen printing. The effect - pixelate - color halftone option wasn't really doing what I needed it to do or it just messed up the lines and not much else... but I think since I made the gradient manually this could be a better option to make a custom halftone and clipping mask. Going to try it out right now! Thanks & Big UPS!

Thanks for this video. I've been doing a lot of upgrading with my computer setup. Went from 2012 Mac Pro 3.3Ghz 6 core to 2017 iMac 4.2Ghz i7 Quad 5K 27 inch and upgraded to the latest CC. I've been using Vectoraster for years for vector halftones... Cheap and super easy. This technique should work fine for simple applications.

That's something that could be a good solution for complex images, I'd be interested to see the quality of the dots. I'll probably check that out

@@leestuart38 I do think it is Mac only, so that could be an issue for the PCers of the world. There is also an AI plugin that does something similar called Phantasm. I tried it once, but preferred Vectoraster.

To get that green in print do you convert to CMYK?

Typically to get an exact match I'd fill it with a pantone spot color, but you can convert to cmyk and get decent results a lot of the time if Pantones aren't available
