It was the “goodbye driver” reference at the end for me, nevermind the supremely competent 21 minutes before that.

Haha! I called the day before to get the early leave. But couldn't help a quick circuit before we departed....strangely there was a radio service at about 9:30 for weather but they wouldn't respond to anything else! Happy new year mate. Lets hope we get up soon!

If you were navigating via BKY, LAM or CLN I do the maintenance on the VOR and DMEs. Great plumbing videos btw.
@TimesWithJames3 жыл бұрын
Ah cool! I hear we're getting rid of VOR's soon....
@BurnedOutGarage3 жыл бұрын
@@TimesWithJames Yes ultimately that is the plan. There is currently a rationalisation project underway, some VORs have been replaced with modern equipment these are mainly the landfall sites some examples would be CLN, SFD, CPT, STU,BHD, IOM and LND, some Scottish VORs too. Obviously with airspace changes and advances in technology some will be removed from procedures etc. Some VORs have a lot of users who will want to keep them in service so the process is often quite slow. There’s a lot more usage of DME these days as well.

May be a silly question so feel free to laugh at me, but what is the point of a touch and go ?
@smsfrancis4 жыл бұрын
Not a silly question! Used for different reasons. In training, the most difficult part is landing so you do loads of these circuits and the best way to get as many in as possible is to land and then take off straight away. Otherwise, you'd have to leave the runway, taxi back to the start, maybe join a queue for taking off, etc. A lot of airfields charge you less to T&G rather than land too. Once qualified, it's used to practice circuits and landings, or to test landing at a new airfield. If you've not been somewhere before, a cheeky T&G can let you know that you've got the approach nailed and got enough runway to stop 😊
@Cablesmith4 жыл бұрын
@@smsfrancis thank you for that ! now you’ve explained it, it makes a lot of sense ! 😀
@TimesWithJames4 жыл бұрын
What Scott said! Also training to take off is critical too...

@@TimesWithJames haha yes I guess they're good to practice too 😂
