It's due to avian flu H5N1 & poultry farms having to cull their flocks. Nearly half of California's dairy farms are affected; the governor has declared a state of emergency due to bird flu. Many grocery stores are limiting customers to 2 (Trader Joe's) or 3 (Whole Foods) cartons per customer. Some were completely sold out, like the store I went to earlier today.
