if anyone is wondering the flat already sold for £500,000 plus a £4,128 yearly service charge and £1,576.26 of council tax per year. So if one had bought it with a 20% deposit (100k) with a 5.5% interest you'd have a monthly payment of £2,456 + service and council tax = £2931.33 a month PLUS all the normal bills so you'd have to be two people both on a salary of about 60k (50% above the average in london) to live in a 517 sq foot 1 bedroom flat that needs to be fixed up :))))))))

Totally crazy!!! I lived in London from 2014 - 2018 and it was expensive even back then. Flats I was living in round the Finsbury park area were like 1300ish per month and they had major issues like this one. Many people in London back then only earned about 30K salary per year. Situation looks way worse now. Imagine paying a 2931 mortgage on this place and having to pay childcare
@amr538811 ай бұрын
None of it adds up frankly! I think the only people with kids in London nowadays are either in council housing or have very healthy bank balances from generational wealth :( At some point it simply must collapse in on itself? Or in 2035 will the average shoddy 1 bed be 1 million and the average salary 50k?
@asq486711 ай бұрын
@@amr5388 agreed it just does not add up. The only people I know in London with kids (and normal incomes) have free childcare (grandparents) or are in council housing. Others had inheritances enabling them to buy property.

@@relaxingvibesambience it went on sale on 3 January 2024 for £500k and it is sold already, has been for a few weeks. This doesn't mean £500k is the sold price - that will show up in the Land Registry in a few months... Hold that thought 😆 and yes, many, many, many people are desperate to pay crazy amounts to live in zone 1-2 London and plenty more coming after them who want the exact same thing. The market reacts to demand vs supply -- that is the primary reason why these prices are crazy.
@doodeedah64096 ай бұрын
@@impamiizgraa Wow I thought your number was way off, but actually made me realise how cheap London flats are to buy relative to rents, compared to Sydney. (Or vice versa: how expensive London rents are relative to buying). Apparently typical rental yield in London is 4-6%, which is insanely high. Your maths actually checks out: if we take the middle yield 5%, you’d indeed expect it to sell at £550K. That sounds way too cheap for Sydney. Here the median yield is 2.3%. So for that amount of rent, you’d expect to sell it for £1.2m.

I'd agree, there're flats in better condition, more space, some nice period features in zone 2 for much less. This flat is in zone 2 (not central central). The single glaze and pumbing issue is a no-no for me. I get it, the area is nice, close to large parks, cool hipster areas. But I wouldn't even live here even if I get paid for it, the living standard is way too low. (and don't tell me about not paying to live ANYWHERE, we own flats in London and I used to rent loads when younger so I'm familiar with the London property scene)

It would be a really nice flat, if there werent all these issues. People commenting on it being too expensive for the location: East London especially around Columbia Road is a highly sought after area, there is much more cool and fun stuff to do than in Notting Hill for example. I do find the flat slightly overpriced given all the issues…whoever buys it will have to sort those out.

Born and raised a stones throw from here. Native locals can’t afford the mice, bad plumbing, lack of space and poor heating you romanticise. As soon as I saw “East London” I knew it was Hackney. It’s as if the Hackney is the only place in East London nowadays. Every one is here.

I viewed a £475,000 a 1 bedroom flat in West Kensington on Gwendr Road on 8th January, it's still on the market. The flat in this video sold within 2 weeks of going on sale on 3rd January (search for it on RightMove). East London is wayyyy more sought after by young professionals people. Hackney is the most popular place for rental searches, followed by Clapham and Brixton. Notting Hill and Kensington are the stereotypical preserves of the ultra-rich and escorts, not as much going on there as the aforementioned among the young professional renters who make up a sizeable chunk of the London private rental market.
