Actually the new Ben has a small blue hearing aid that he inserts into his ear. It's small and difficult to see, but it's there.

She would have been eighteen when Ian was born (March 1969), about a month and a half away from being nineteen but she was already married to Pete at this point so people typically do just forget that Kathy was older than she appeared and how young she was when Ian was born. In fact, Phil is closer in age to Ian than he is Kathy and the reason everybody was so shocked when Phil and Kathy had a child had nothing to do with the pair's marriage and more so to do with the fact that Kathy was in her mid forties and almost eleven years older than Phil

David Coupland the new ben was wearing a smaller hearing aid that you couldn’t really see. And he wears contacts for his eyes now although we‘ve seen him with glasses as well but just in the morning 🙈
