Todd Carty, who played Mark, actually disagreed with the storyline. He felt Mark had many years left... as someone he based the character on lived a lot longer. Mark only tried 3 combinations of HIV drugs so the storyline was unrealistic in that sense. Patients go on to try more combinations than three! He was angry that Mark was killed off too early & felt like it took hope away from the real people suffering from HIV, he very much hoped that Mark's storyline didn't make HIV patients give up hope that their lives could be long & successful.
