It was the end of an era when Carol and Alan left. I hate how they split up offscreen later I dont believe that would've happened.

Carol and Alan's split was inevitable. They had ongoing issues; they fought over his insecurities, he cheated with Frankie & Carol cheated with David. Plus, it was often said that Carol and David were each other's true loves since they were teenagers. As Bianca said in 1999, it's no coincidence that Carol chose a man with similar looks & traits to David when she got engaged to Dan Sullivan.

@@rayoflight6505 Their love was strong? Let's agree to disagree. Years later it is David and Carol who are reunited on screen and end up sleeping together. Alan is just a distant memory. He's the man who was good to her by raising her children who were from different fathers. He was never stated to be her true love. There were more hints that David was her true love, the boy she loved since school.
