Here are all of the main EastEnders title sequences dating back to 1985. Which one is your favourite?

So if they’ve never updated it since 2009 then that’s by far the longest serving title sequence

They have updated it though, Maybe not given it a full blown overhaul but the map has since been updated with the olympic park being added in 2012.

Mine is the most recent because it's the one that's been in use since I started watching the show and ironically seeing the new "titles" set off my interest for watching the show on a regular basis in the first place.

The 2009 - present version is the best for me. I dont know who else likes it

The best for me is the 1999 version, there was another intro in 1991 that had more orchestrated music

On the far right under the River Thames in the current titles is Thamesmead, where I used to live. Glad to know my old neighbourhood appears in EastEnders opening and closing titles even though it only appears in a microscopic size lol

What's the difference between the 1985 & 1990 intros?

I think the 1993-1999 set looked the best in terms of colours. The golds/ greys/ green with splashes of blue looked really arty. Pretty, but not so fantastical or idyllic that it stops looking like London (like the current set!) 1999 probably looks the most realistic of all, but I find it a tad dull for that. I suppose having google earth so freely available makes the realistic one seem bland. 2009 was a big misstep. The inclusion of clouds was long overdue, but the colouring of the map and river is just downright unpleasant; glossy and clean. The mint-greens and bold, dark blue tones really don’t work, and give off more of a ‘tropics’ vibe than East London. The original really works for how spooky and dark it is. It gives the impression of a very grimy London, which the show was very much all about in those days.

Almost all maps are based somewhat or use real birdseye view images. Its mentioned that the original 1985 B&W/Blue map was based on real photographs of london, pinned onto a blue board with the river cut out in order for it to stand out. Same is said for the 1999 map but its a similar process done on computer. The dome was keyed in based on blueprints as it did not actually exist at that point in time. Also I do think the 2009 map is actually acting like a throwback to the 1985 set, with the blue water. I do also think it looking "tropical" and looking different from a real map is intentional, its more unique than just a Google Earth extract. It makes it look more distinctive.

@@deltaboogaloo633 I've never seen the 2009 version as looking tropical, it looks very cold to me. I prefer the 1999 version but will always enjoy the original dark/grimy opening
