What an absolute joy to find this Easter 2017. I was one of those simple youth group kids who clung to my Bible, 2nd Chapter & Keith Green albums back in the 70's & early 80's just to make it through Jr. Hi, HS and university. I recall the Jesus festivals back in the day with just a few hundred or maybe a thousand kids in muddy fields or under circus tents. I was so impacted by the music and voices like Winkie Pratney, John Fischer & Loren Cunningham that I joined YWAM. Somewhere I have pics of you performing at a GO festival in Kona, HI, right before I headed off to the Philippines & India. Both 2nd Chapter & your solo albums (I particularly recall "Armed & Dangerous") gave our teams huge amounts of encouragement & comfort during some incredibly hard days of political turbulence. I can't tell you how much we leaned into that musical truth, especially at times when spoken or written word wasn't lifting us beyond circumstances. It's amazing how God can use a cassette tape, a Walkman & a little corner in an otherwise chaotic world to bring one into a place of peace & wholeness. God did so much with the seeds planted. Years later, many of us are still serving in some capacity, whether through YWAM or other ministry (I remained through the late 90's, then began work with an NGO a few years before 9/11. Currently hoping to return to Afghanistan by way of my beloved India.). Easter reminded me of this amazing song and the music of those early, foundational years. I find myself returning to those days of small beginnings and taking courage from the message in music of that day as I look ahead to my Joshua & Caleb years (which are not too far off, it seems). Thanks to you and the other musicians who were a part of the journey. I hope you're doing well health wise & remain so. Cancer is such a hard battle. Blessings & grace.

I want you to imagine this actual scenario folks. I cannot even begin to tell you how it felt sitting in a weekly meeting with the following as the combined worship band. Keith Green, Melody Green, the entire band of Second Chapter of Acts with Matthew Wards angelic voice, taking those gathered to a realm in heavenly places of worship that they'd never wanted to return from. EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT at the weekly prayer meeting @ Lindale, Texas, were the AWESOME, UNCOMPROMISING weekly teachings of Leonard Ravenhill. In the gathering would be my sister and brother in law Kent and Elizabeth McElroy, Mack Tomlinson, who recently wrote the Biography of Leonard Ravenhill, also Paul Washer, the humble and now mightly anointed servant of God, also Leonard Terry, anointed teacher of The Word of God at a fellowship in London, Ontario, where his ministry/teaching gifts are not utilised anywhere near the extent of Leonards giftings, then the amazing musician and worship leader Larry MaGill . Those truly were days of incredible teaching and worship which never could be copied today. Days when the anointing resting on the mouth of Leonard Ravenhill, would bring the entire gathering to their knees and eventually prostrate on their faces before The Lord in repentance. NOWADAYS WE CAN BARELY LAST AN HOUR IN CHURCH AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REVERENCE OR FEAR OF WHO OUR AWESOME GOD IS.

I met 2nd Chapter in Syracuse 1979 when I was touring in ministry of Covenant Players and they were so genuinely kind, but more importantly, the Holy Spirit POURED in their concert and AFTERWARDS in their humble hearts. +Mark Rogers It is good to see him; according to his web page, in the early 1990's he battled three different types of Cancer; (it doesn't list the individual types.) It runs in his family; by the time he was 12 or 13, he'd lost his Mom to a Brain Tumor and his Dad to Leukemia, which as you probably know was when he and Nellie came to live w/ Annie and Buck. Also he's now a registered Nurse's Aid, qualified in 2013 or 14.

The very first Christian album I received after accepting Jesus as savior in summer of 1977 was The 2nd Chapter of Acts with footnotes. The power of the Holy Spirit was never more evident than when Annie, Nellie and Matthew sang in anointed harmony. I live now on a mountain in the tent of meetings. I have know you all here & there throughout your life shared in your wit & love for Jesus Christ our Lord. Glory be unto Him at meeting there as you sang a man walked in before me withered right leg, it had been spoken I had the gift of healing & decerning of spirits ha ha ha Mario Mirillo was giving a word & without seeing this man who sat before me there's a man with a leg who God wants to heal I felt & even knew this before. This man who with prophetic word and knowing this his leg began to pop and grow , see it was short withered & deformed it grew without regard to proper norms or possibilities and came out inflated like a pneumatic splint, But this was his leg 🦵 full & normal no one else to see though a group of worshipers were there, I said to myself, " "well you can't fake that! " no spectical made Jesus Christ got all the glory no man that day immediately saw that but I. Being to front far right as was he directly before me there.. I was 13. I was passionate about music. A gift. And I attended a concert in a small cotton field high school in Northeast Louisiana. These two amazingly beautiful women came out with this awesome vocalist brother of theirs. Now, understand, I'm 13. I NOTICED the girls. Then there was a problem with the piano tuning. So, Buck Herring comes out and calms the crowd while they tune the piano. Then it hits me....WAIT! HER last name is "Herring...." Well DANG....I'm THIRTEEN remember...logic does NOT matter.... But WAIT....there's the WARD gal....but then.....the MUSIC.....I was lost in Matthew's voice....I was captivated....enveloped beyond the flesh...seeking...I am 61 now...my SAVIOR is still with me. I have a degree in music...(that and .10 cents gets me a a coffee on a sale). Oh, but the MUSIC....like the Savior...it is there...ALWAYS there...with the guitar in my hands...with the piano before me....with the horns in my hands....ALWAYS with me....Like JESUS....Mr. Matthew, Ms. Anne, Ms Nelly...thank you for your guidance, for your steadfastness. The music of 2nd Chapter of Acts was hugely influential on my sisters and I as young teens and new Believers in the 1970s. Each time I hear them my spirit man rejoices over my Redeemer and what He sacrificed for me. The joy of that never ends.

Brother Matthew, it is a blessing to see you are still singing; Right after I received Christ as my savior and master, I began hearing music with you and your sisters in the 2nd Chapter of Acts and played the music on my 8-track player, I was excited because it was such excellent music so I brought it home to let my Father hear the music, and used it as a testimony to witness to my folks. My Father was a nightclub singer and my Mother sang in Choirs when she was younger, so I too have a background in music. Of course, I am only 2 years older than you and listened to the radio and patterned my style of singing after Motown as a teen, while in high school. My favorite songs from you are Summer Snow and Love, and that song you did, Soft Spot Inside When You Touch It, it made me cry. I want to mention that I prayed for you when I found out you had cancer and Praised God, and was so very glad to know God healed you, what a testimony your life has been, as well as an inspiration to my life. The group 2nd Chapter of Acts was my favorite group, along with Keith Green their music blessed me as a teenager and to hear Annie and Matthew still blessing us with song is a blessing. My girlfriend and now wife was at Disneyland on Church Night in the 70's and they performed the Hallelujah Chorus it was a blessed performance and I have never seen a recording of that song by them, they are definitely blessed by the Spirit of God.

Man, it's been YEARS since I heard that voice. Still as pure as it was in the mid 70's. Thanks for being one of the pioneers of Christian music. It was slim pickins back then but you and your two sisters (2nd Chapter of Acts) were awesome!
