Eastlake residents upset over HOA garage parking rule

“Park in the garage, or else”: That is the message from a homeowner’s association to some Chula Vista residents, but many homeowners in Eastlake Trails are bristling under the restrictions on outdoor parking.

this reminds me of the one HOA that demanded ppl keep their garage doors open at all times. the residents got sick and tired of homes/garages getting robbed. if i remember correctly it was the HOAs security was stealing from everyone.

@@SuperKaydance It's great advice, you've never had problems with HOA before or are a board member of one. HOA's operate under the guise of protecting the community, but in reality all they do is get rich off the backs of home owners and residents, and enforce silly rules and regulations that don't hurt anyone or the environment, and fine you to oblivion if you don't comply. They are rigid and impossible to deal with, and cause more harm than good.

People should always keep in mind that the HOA board members make decisions and the management company does what the board members want. If you have complaints they should be directed at the board usually, not the management company. Sometimes people confuse the two entities.

it don’t matter who you hire, they are suppose to represent what the residents want. if the residents don’t want a specific rule, they need to ensure the HOA is abiding by what the residents want. most times these rules are stupid, and people refuse to fight back, so the management companies just keep doing more wrong. if residents don’t want a rule, they should all make it known. it is the best thing to do, stop making rules about needing updated plates, stop making rules on street parking, because they start trying to find ways to charge people for things they should not, they start working with companies and receiving kick backs to tow your vehicles, and to write fines. so to avoid their desires for corruption. do not allow them to be able to have authority over specific things in the property.

As the man (Gen 1:26-28) KJV, a husband (Gen 2:21-25) and a father (Gen 3:16), the minister of God (Rom 13), teacher (Eph 4) and one of the survivors who was bullied in school, I had never heard of HOA until recently and have read nothing but horror stories about it charging homeowners fees, turning everyone's place of peace into an absolute daytime nightmare. I personally would never purchase a house where I have to continuously deal with Freddy Krueger while I am awake. Man likes peace.

None of the houses looked as if they were lived in and were "for display only". This is just a way for them to generate money. They know that the contractors do not build garage that can house cars. You can’t open the doors there’s no storage inside the house. The lots are very small. They really should be on the hook for saying to residence you can only own As many cars as you will be able to put away so that we can’t see them. This is crazy. Why do people read + sign the HOA agreement and then expect to be able to violate the rules when they start hoarding too much stuff? This is what entitlement looks like. If your 7-passenger SUV doesn’t fit in your garage, you bought the wrong vehicle. It’s not the HOAs problem, it’s your problem.

Well I know for me personally I would rather park inside my garage anyway it’ll prevent someone from breaking into my car if it’s the garage I know people get into garage doors to but you’ll have a better advantage parking inside then outside that’s just me and besides I ain’t got that much storage to be taking up space in the garage anyway so this wouldn’t be a problem for me but I could see where the residents are coming from most definitely

If you've bought a home built within the last 10 years (outside the rust belt) then the HOA likely controls your home. You may not know it but it does. Only exceptions are separate homes built outside developments: they are usually next to the Sunoco station or next to the quarry.

@@britneyystaples91 That's the spirit. However it is a rare condition that you describe having. And even rarer now than it was two years ago when I posted my comment. Most homes built within the last 12 years now, are in an HOA. I caveated that by saying, "outside the rust belt." By that I mean outside the northern tier of the country. No I am not saying that if someone doesn't live in an HOA then their house is trash. I am saying the vast majority of homes built in recent history are HOA homes. And a lot of the minority that are not, well, are not in the best neighborhoods for a variety of reasons not the least of which is that they pre-date the HOA surge (i.e. they are old in dated neighborhoods). Since I posted my comment, we bought a nice new home on 4 acres an hour from the city, without an HOA (my flat ass demand). It was one of about five or six that we found during our two year search. The others ALL were either run down a bit or in a development with a Declaration of Covenants but without an HOA -- but with subtle language that could have resulted in an HOA at some point if a strong personality decided they wanted to make it happen.

@@britneyystaples91 First, HOAs are formed before anyone has bought a home. They do not usually form after the fact. And they are formed because there is some piece of land or amenity that all members share. This could be the street, a park, pathways, a pool, etc. And if you want complete control over your land, minus what the State, County and City allow, you should not live in an HOA. HOAs are not for everyone. But, if you are looking for the benefits of a managed neighborhood or the shared amenities then you need to understand and follow the HOA's rules. In most states you are legally bound to do so. Joining an HOA and then not following the rules can be costly even to the point of losing your home. So anyone that looks at a home in an HOA should read the rules first before signing anything. You will be much happier if you know what is expected.

Some just have a set of rules and someone to enforce them so that properties stay maintained and keep home values up. Many, not all, the homes in an HOA sell for more than comparable homes near by not in an HOA just because maintenance and similar factors are consistent.
