Yes it is! Although it can be quite loud pure acoustically.

I believe they're the same thing! They're called Octave Mandolin in the states, Octave Mandola in UK & Ireland :)

I've been trying to decide whether to get an Octave Mandolin or an Irish Bouzouki. You really make that Eastman sing! Other than scale length, what's the difference between the Octave Mandolin and the Bouzouki?

They are actually very similar besides size and scale length. It might depend on your preferred style and genre to choose which sound will fit best with what you want. If you're heading more towards melodies and bluegrass, the octave mandolin might be your best bet. If you like a more rhythm style of playing and chords, then the Bouzouki might be very interesting!
