Hi! I’m your fan since yesterday. I saw few of your videos about lightning because I’ve been a KZbinr for the last 10 years and I’ve never been able to nail the lighting set up. My room is super bright, but still I thought I needed more and more light. I was so jealous about videos that look like yours 😂. So yesterday I clicked one of your videos (by accident) and I couldn’t believe when you turned off all the lights and started adding just a little bit of light here and there for a beautiful result. Finally decided to give it a try with the light I have ( my ring light mirror for makeup😅 and a floor LED lamp) I was so scared about having the ISO of my camera so high compared to how it usually is, I set it up on auto ISO, because I have to move the camera around very often. Later I checked and WOW just WOW seriously I almost cried, not kidding😅. My son was also impressed and said it looks way more professional. I just wished I saw your video years ago. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH! ❤ I also saw your free camera settings guide Thank you for that too 😊

I'm from Brazil and there's no one here who explains lighting like you. I'm watching all the videos! Around here, I can't find a lot of the equipment you recommend, or they're super expensive. I currently have a YONGNUO RGB led stick, which is very strong, and a Softbox without control. Could you tell me which other lights I should complete to better the main light, the fill light and the rim light?

@benjohnsoncreative

Yes in theory, I’d look into shining one of the ring lights through something like a diffuser or even a white bed sheet to make it a larger light source which will make the key light softer

Thanks for the great tips! What do you think about the background furniture? I have 3.5m room width and behind me I have white Ikea furniture storage units and shelfs in White, also the wall is white. Do you think I can make it work with RGB light or the light will most likely get reflected out?

@@benjohnsoncreative Thanks Ben. Its just Ikea Kallax system with square white boxes .. I actually just moved it now to my studio room and I placed some items inside it. Pointed RGB blue towards it from one angle, doesn’t look that bad. Its of course brighter than a black braun or grey cabinet.. but you gotta work with what you have.. right? 😅🙈 Now its kind of partially hidden behind my vertical recording as I am planning my videos for Reels and Shorts… I have to raise it up with one more level so that audience can see something out of my backdrop. Btw, I am using sigma 16mm f1.4 and its fabulous on Zve10

How do you light up somone who is doing indoor videos with wearing hats, cowboy hats?
@benjohnsoncreative
@benjohnsoncreative 12 күн бұрын
That’s a challenge! I personally haven’t tried that before, let me experiment and I’ll try and make a post on this at some point! It will just come down to position, try to get a large light source as close as you can and because of the brim of the hat you’ll have to position the light down so that the light has a chance to hit the face
@Mr-Royn
@Mr-Royn 12 күн бұрын
@benjohnsoncreative I have thought about trying something. If I decide to do something, and post, will let you know. Maybe something like, instead of top 45 degrees, bottom 45. And trying something like edge light for the hat and another light for halo effect. Then the challenge becomes like, one side has gone dark.

The problem I am having is that I am finding the lights are too bright. Even on the lowest dim setting. I really want a light where I can dim it really low for almost a creepy effect. A lot of the lights on the market now are BRIGHT. Which I understand but it would be nice to have some options!

To me your softbox is very harsh. Its turned up a lot for my liking. i guess its something that kept poking at me as soon as i started watching this video. I guess its just what everyone is used to or what their style is like. Might not be a bad thing, your lighting could be still correct but to me looks a bit too harsh. It should have a soft roll off, well defined rim light, and shadow…without being blown out.
@benjohnsoncreative

Different preferences are ok - you can use these same concepts and dial back your key light for a softer look.
