I show you a well-preserved abandoned place in the desert - and entire abandoned mining camp that is close to the highway and easy to access in any off-road vehicle. First we stop by the Blackhawk mine, then we make our way to this mini abandoned mining town which is just below the Big Bear mountains, a few miles east of Highway 18, just south of Highway 247 / Old Woman Springs Road.

Yes, I’ve been there several times. Unfortunately some of the buildings roofs and trusses were burned down by some losers. Back in the early 2000s there were squatters there and they were shooting from the inside of the main structure out toward us with a .22 rifle. Lucky for them we just left, because what my buddy had in his truck would have more than just “leveled the playing field.” Most people you meet while exploring are good, but I highly recommend having a firearm with you in case leaving isn’t an option.

HECK, son! I can do this run in a well-equipped 2WD truck... "well-equipped", that is, save for the missing front driveline... it has everything else (recovery gear, extra motor fuel supply, water, food, shelter, tools) including! the best Value-Per-Dollar GMRS two-way radio gear IN THE WORLD, procured with relative ease! thanks to the information found elsewhere on this very same YT Channel run by this video's highly-intelligent, humorous, sarcastic, right-thinking, experienced, informative, thoughtful and magnanimous author. no homo. Only respekt. 🏜

there was a really cool mining camp i found in that area when i used to live out there was still completely intact some old paperwork in the desks ore samples on the shelves, was like a 50+ year old time capsule then when i was back in the area again 10 years ago or so i wen't back out there and some "dickheads" to put it nicely had burned the place down. a few more miles up the road there was a really cool stone house that still had running water(gravity fed from a spring) wasn't burned down like the mining camp but heavily vandalized. its a real shame what some idiots will do.

Hey man love your videos just wanted you to do a quick public service announcement. About dogs and keeping them on leashes out in the mining districts. Dogs and kids should be kept close in those areas. There are open stoles and chutes throughout the areas. A family lost a dog down a chute at brooklyn mine on Sunday it ran into the mine and fell straight down a oar chute 300+ft. It could have been worse it could have knocked a person down the same chute. Keep your kids and animals out of the mines. They are a dangerous place. And ther is no HELP! IN THE MINES YOU ARE YOUR OWN RESCUE. this is extremely important to understand. We need people like you with a big following to get the word out. Thank you man stay safe and happy trails. Hope to see you out there one of these times.

I have been there several times. It used to be all intacted the first time i went even the sleuth was still standing. Its a shame dickheads tore it down. I have a cabin in Johnson Valley and have been going out there my whole life. There used to be so many cool places like that to go check out sadly dickheads have ruined most of them. Thanks for the video next trip im going to take a drive up there its been a few years.

The camp is the Lester Dale mine. Until 2005 there was a mill just to the north of camp. The main house was all intact until some morons burned it down about 10 years ago. The strip mine above camp was not part of the Lester Dale gold mine.
