Hey Marty, I had to find my password just to login and pay you a compliment. These messages are meant to be short. I'm 55, tried a couple of times to play in my 30s, and quit both times. This time, I started in January. I put my stand right near my desk so I'll pick it up every day. I guess because I'm a little more "mature," I'm patient, tell myself there's no rush and glad I'm glad to be learning. I would have quit if it weren't for you!! When I google tutorials, I go straight to those with your picture. Your method, consideration for the learner, upbeat and personable nature...well, we're now friends. I am grateful to you. Thank you Marty. Oh by the way, I have two bookmark folders, one called 'Guitar', one called 'Marty'. If I knew I how to use FB, I would have posted this for others to read.

As an "intermediate" player, I still very much enjoy learning from Marty, especially since my rediscovering the craft in my 60s a couple years ago. There are times when I think of just retiring and hanging out on a main street corner and playing & singing these 10 songs over & over-- just for the "totin' around money" -- and it truly wouldn't even feel like working. Love it! Thanks so much, Marty!

I'm 62. I can still hit some of the high notes, but something every musician should understand is that for the basic 1/4/5 patterns you are describing, once you learn barre chords, the world is your oyster in terms of simply transposing the key to where it's comfortable to sing. I am not criticizing your basic video instruction here, I know you get it, and I'm sure you teach this in your classes. The "high notes" comment came from "Have you Ever Seen the Rain" at the end. I move it to A. I can technically still hit the notes in C, but it is far more comfortable down a step and a half. And indeed, I learned most of these songs MANY years ago, but for beginners, this is a very good lesson. Thumbs up.

While in my car I browsed for beginner lessons and out of the list, I found you and Fender which I think will be the two main resources for my new hobby. In one day I have learned the anatomy of the guitar and also used a free Fender Tune to learn how to tune and fine-tune. Thanks to Marty for saying there are free apps out there to help. Watching videos like this "showcasing 145/1546 etc etc" ,give me confidence to "Admit" I am a Guitarist. Cus I can play these without feeling inadequate (bcus of the simplicity) Also. This comes handy when it comes to song writing.

Man, I've been playing Won't back down wrong for so long. LOL. I've been using power chords. Tennessee whiskey, though, I'd totally recommend a beginner learn it without the capo. It's a very easy introduction to barre chords, plus you'll be able to play those sweet solos.

Chris who? DAC made that song popular for me. But a lot of people don't realize who originally did it and how many times it's been covered. Side note, it might help some people to count the Am in the song as 123456, 223456, 323456, 423456 and then switch chords. Nevertheless, excellent video Marty, you're a great teacher!

Of course, wonderwall. I wish people learn the arpeggios in the bridge section before saying they know this song. It's easy but since I tend to mute strings without thinking it always frustrates me.

bad habit of just free flowing jazz and blues without any recognizable songs for anyone listening While this is fun and I'm good at it----- my new goal is to learn songs people know, all the way through. This is perfect- Thanks!
