Here are a few simple tips for any new air rifle owner. James Marchington shows us how to quickly discover where your rifle is shooting at different ranges. Using a cardboard box you can find out how much you need to alter your shot to hit the target from just a few yards to over 30.
This film was first shown in AirHeads Episode 5. To watch the whole show go to Fcha.nl/airheadstv

A well structured explanation. I have a Gamo .22 zeroed at 25 meters and established that I was on target at 6 meters as well. I was happy to see that as a gun enthusiast, you are both responsible and ethical. Regardless of what one is hunting, a clean shot with minimal suffering is clearly the objective. Also keeping in mind where the projectile will end up. Without the information you have so kindly provided, good bullet/pellet placement is not possible. Thanks again for your effort.

Very helpful. Thanks! :) I have a Nikko Sterling center point scope on my crosman 1377, zeroed in at 10m and I don't have mildots to help with hold over. By using this method I can guesstimate where I should aim with my reticule. I can hit a 1inch thick stone at 20m with hold over. Also on the range card you can put angle of incline and a diagram of the reticule aim point, so that you will know where it will hit dead on. It's very satisfying judging holdover without mildots.

Twenty five yards is actually your *second* zero. I used Hawke X-ACT software, putting in muzzle velocity and ballistic coefficient of my Polymag Predator pellets. I experimented with different zero distances until I settled upon 15 yards, with 35 yards being my second zero. I printed-out the chart and remember my holdover in inches at 5 yards is 1" and at 10 yards is 1/2". Between 15 and 35 yards it only rises to a maximum of 0.4" at 25 yards. Then it just drops like a rock. At 45 yards it drops an inch and at 50 yards, two inches, but that's bigger than my yard.

Very well explained. But one thing I don't get, the "cheat sheet" at the end- where it shows eg 5 yards is below the 25 yard (set) one, shouldn't you put how many of those horizontal lines (sorry I don't know the name) down from centre that the 5 yards (for example) is hitting at? Otherwise, how do you know how much further down 5 yards is from 10 yards?

There expensive but you may want to check out a product called "pellet pen" i just bought one and tried it a few times and it is nice for quicker reloading. Not perfect but it beats doing it by hand. During the off season when squirrel is over and I just want to be in the woods, English Sparrows are unprotected and abundant so I sight it in at 9 yards and aim for the top of the head if closer then that, I never need more than that, H&N Baracuda Hunters 18.21gr work well for me at these closer ranges and are still accurate when I re sight it at 25 yards for squirrel season. Hi Sir,,, nice review,,, i set my scope at 38 meters, and i have almost the same POI starting from 20 mtr up to 40 mtr ,,, i use JSB 18.13gr ,,, for my Edgun Matador at velocity 930 FPS ,,, i think the best way for all hunters is to find the best distance & velocity for zeroing the scope for getting the longest flat shooting ... of course we have to consider about the scope height and all other situations ,,,

Hi, and thanks CHOPERUS23. That scope is quite an old one, a Nikko Stirling Nighteater 4-16x44. It has a parallax adjustment wheel on the side, which I find helps me focus when I'm filming through the scope. And yes, I do like that reticle as it helps with gauging windage as well as holdover.

While it might be true that guns are more easily attained in the us I think the UK hunters are better shots and would wipe the floor with most us hunters when on equal terms.. EDIT: AIRGUNS!!!BRITS ARE BETTER WITH AIRGUNS!!! WITH ANYTHING ELSE; AMERICANS ARE BETTER BECAUSE THEY USE ABSURD AMOUNTS OF FIREPOWER 'CAUSE OTHERWISE THEY MIGHT MISS OR WHAT EVER IT WAS THEY WERE SHOOTING COULD EITHER RUN OR FIGHT BACK... i had to edit this for usmcjd24 and he's a veteran...never get into an argument with a veteran, god knows what PTSD might cause...
@usmcjd24
@usmcjd24 9 жыл бұрын
atzerath Well, good luck with that opinion. Give me 1 reason why that statement is true other than just some chest beating, because i wouldn't believe it for a second. Reason 1 from my point of view, i believe we probably have more hicks, most of the time they can shoot pretty straight even after a few. Reason 2, we have a larger standing military, hence we have more veterans, most of which are usually trained to shoot even in non-infantry military occupations.
@usmcjd24
@usmcjd24 9 жыл бұрын
atzerath Well first off i can say, as a USMC Vet (hence the SN), a firecracker at my feet wouldn't make it so i can't shoot straight (which is why we would train under those conditions, exactly so we could shoot straight) and for the most part in my experience the vast majority of vets are taken very well care of, we're not helpless and damaged. It's hard to complain with free healthcare benefits, as well as getting school payed for. Almost every one that i have served with has actually been very successful after getting out.That's the difference between thinking you know about a group of people, and actually knowing. Also, yes you are chest beating, and it doesn't matter whether you're British or not. Maybe the phrase eludes you, it is bragging or boasting that one group of individuals is better than another. Which is what you've managed to do in both posts, only one of which made any sort of valid argument. I would reasonably entertain the idea that UK air rifle hunters are better shots and those of us here in the US based on the fact they use smaller caliber rounds at a slower velocity that are less forgiving to shot placement. Therefore they have to make sure every shot counts. Except in your first post you never specifically mentioned shooting with air rifles, just shooting in general. Now that is what an intelligent response in a conversation would look like, however i don't feel you'll be taking that route anytime soon, seeing as how you proceed down the path claiming we use grenades and shoot mice with pistols, that is more along the lines of an argument my 5 year old would come up with. I would venture to say anyone reading this conversation would say that me being "ameritrash" doesn't sound like the one being full of myself, as opposed to the undefined culture you claim as your own. And i am in no way trying to change your opinion nor was i offended. What i was wishing you "good luck" with was making any sort of a valid argument that the average UK shooter (in general) would "wipe the floor" with the average American shooter. You are correct in the fact that every person is entitled to an opinion, unfortunately some opinions do show how entirely ignorant someone is when they can't make a clear point without trying to insult the person they are talking to. Again, good luck with that.
