CORRECTIONS: "In an interview with Masamitsu Hidaka in 2008, it was explained that the GS Ball was originally going to contain a Celebi that was to be the star of a large arc of the Johto saga. However, it was decided that Celebi would be the star of the fourth movie, so the story arc was viewed as redundant and shelved. The ball was left with Kurt with the hopes that viewers would eventually forget about it." In Crystal, there was a Japan only event to get the GS ball from Kurt. Really strong and solid take by Ian on taking each mass of user reviews on a case by case basis. Take every site as it's own thing and recognize the habits of that userbase. Fun Trivia (sort of): Final Fantasy VII might be the third best selling game on the PlayStation, but, anecdotally, it's also the most returned game on the PlayStation. There's no real proof for it, but there are many anecdotal reports that a lot of players bought Final Fantasy VII because of the ads showing only the FMV cutscenes, and a lot of those players returned it after discovering it was actually pretty ugly outside of those scenes. Not to mention, turn-based RPGs have never been mainstream popular.

I have to defend steam reviews. Especially when it comes to smaller, indie or lesser known games. First though it needs to be said that it's not 0-10, steam reviews are either "recommend" or "not recommend" and that is very special, you have to keep it in mind, when a game is "9/10" on steam, that means 10% of reviews choose not to recommend it. Not that the average score is a 9. So anyway, in defense of steam reviews - I do use them and think they are a very good source of informaition and opinions. You sort by helpful and take a look at a few recommended and a few not recommended reviews. You choose 1 or 2 that look sensibly written and what you then read is usually a very honest and straight-forward review of the game. Often people also list pros and cons which makes skimming fast and easy.

Here’s where I think the difference lies regarding the 2 review bomb situations: For Rainbow Six, I think it’s justified because reviews are about the quality of the game, and they are actually reacting to something in the game, so I think that’s okay. For Tomb Raider, on the other hand, I think it is not justified, since they are only reviewing the game poorly since it went on sale. That is dishonest because that does not affect the actual quality of the game, which is what you are reviewing

The bird call used in media for the Bald Eagle is from the Osprey or Sea hawk. The Osprey is a great hunter and snatches large fish or small-medium animals. It embodies most of what we think of for our national bird. The Bald Eagle will also fish and catch small animals, but is more of a scavenger.

I have additional info on the GS Ball in Pokémon. So, in Crystal Version, Celebi was originally going to have a more involved story. Players would take their carts to a special event where Nintendo would upload the GS Ball into their game. In-game, you were supposed to take the ball to a shrine to Celebi in Ilex Forest and Celebi would show up and you could catch it. Unfortunately, the event never happened as intended. It was easier for Nintendo to just wire Celebi into the game without all the pagentry like they did for Mew in Red/Blue. To my knowledge, the in-game event is not even coded into the non-Japanese versions of the game. When the original event plan was abandoned, the anime arc was too.

Minor Correction: Steam reviews don't go by numbers or able to put "0". It's simply "Recommended" (Blue thumbs up) or "Not recommended" (red thumbs down) that is attached to your word review. GS BALL Semi Correction: Kyle is right but there was a reason. The GS ball was given to Ash by Prof. Ivy to bring to Oak. Oak then told ash to bring it to Kurt in Azalea Town. After that, the GS ball story line was shelved. It was originally going to contain a Celebi and start a whole new arc of the show but that idea was scrapped because they thought it would be better to tell that story in the 4th Pokemon movie, said by Masamitsu Hidaka during an interview in 2008.

The user reviews on steam can be incredibly helpful. Lots of times its a red flag because a new game is buggy as hell or if it has huge control issues like Moonlighter. This idea that user reviews are worthless is really elitist, as if you need to be employed by an official publication to have anything worth while saying. I always check user reviews but I have enough experience with reviews in general to read them and see if people are disliking a game for a valid reason or not. Rather than a review taking umbrage with the fact that the main character is male only or something like that. I would say reviews from big publications aren't really trusted as much anymore because it feels like most of them have an agenda, not Allies in my opinion but the likes of Gamespot and IGN. User reviews definitely have a lot to offer.

I wish I had read the user reviews or checked the overall user temperature on certain sports games They got the usual 80-ish score from reviewers that that reviewed the games from more casual perspective emphasizing things that are less important to series veterans. Veterans of the series found the problems - mainly on game mechanics - and the scores were somewhere around 50 to 60 to which I would had agreed my self also. And it's not like reviewing a game is like rocket science or anything. Users can do good job too and they are the ones with zero ties or need to please anyone.

I think review bombing is always fair. If you bought a game, and it's a live service product that continues to change after the fact, then you 100% have the right to express that negative feedback as loudly as you want. If thousands of others want to do that too, then maybe the developer shouldn't have gone in that direction.

CORRECTION: China is not, and was never a “First World” country. The First-Second-Third World terminology is from the Cold War, where the American and NATO-aligned countries were the “First World,” the Soviet and Warsaw Pact-aligned countries were the “Second World,” and the other, unaligned nations (like most of Africa) were the “Third World.” So these terms don’t really mean anything now that the Cold War is over, even though people still use them. Even then, China was never a part of the western bloc, and therefore, not in the “First World.” en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Third_World
@Hazz3r6 жыл бұрын
While I agree with all your points, it's really interesting, I think most would agree that the language has evolved so that "first-world" is a term synonymous for developed countries, and "third-world" a term synonymous for developing countries. It's what we mean when we say that someone is having "First-World problems", because they don't face the same kind of hardships that citizens of a developing, or third-world, country would. In that way, China is indeed a "First World" country.

Not really a correction but more insight on Steam reviews to give Jones more nuance. In a lot of cases reviews can actually be helpful on Steam because there are users whose reviews: 1. Highlight current issues with the game. 2. Give links to community fixes, patches, and tweaks, including installation guides and guides to avoid/fix issues, if available. 3. There are a lot of older, sometimes no longer supported games on Steam, and some user reviews even include guides on getting them running. 4. Give links to Japanese audio for undubbing certain Japanese titles, if you're into that. 5. Highlight improvements made recently by the developer. 6. Give links to patches that restore cut content or censored content, if you're into that. They can be a one-stop-shop for everything you need to get a game running. So yeah, sometimes Steam reviews are helpful in a way most "professional" reviewers aren't in that they provide information the professionals normally don't, and these are made by people who can be considered as hardcore fans or "experts in the field" of that particular game (which you can't expect a professional reviewer to be in most cases), so to speak. These kinds of reviews are also usually tagged the "most helpful" ones and usually show up at the top. You can tag a user review as helpful, not helpful, and funny, on Steam if you didn't know. Also Warframe's con is called Tennocon because the player character is called a Tenno.

Another Dragon Quest correction: Dragon Quest sales numbers are big for me so I want to specify something quick here: ~3.25 million retail copies of DQ XI were sold in Japan, but Famitsu estimates ~.25 million digital copies were sold in Japan, so the number for Japan is at least 3.5 million, which means DQXI sold a MINIMUM of 500k in the West, not 600k. However Square Enix did say over 4 million, so it is possible it did 600k or more, but the specific number of 4 million or more as supposed to, lets just say, pointing at 4.25 million, makes me think it is very close to 4 million, Square Enix will take any chance they get to brag about sales numbers if they are higher. For context, we know Dragon Quest IX sold 1.02 million as of March 2011, so it very well may have sold more than that over the following year, likely did, though not much more (this is according directly to Nintendo BTW) Dragon Quest VIII has no official western numbers, but is likely over 1 million as well. However XI did outsell both in its first month, though, I would still point out that Nintendo does bet on holiday sales more than most other publishers, and Square Enix rarely markets older releases in the holidays, so I do think there is a decent chance it doesn't reach IX on PS4 and PC alone, however, it still is possible.
@charlesdickens18036 жыл бұрын
Kyle is also mixing up the US only NPD numbers with the total Western sales numbers. Just because XI did better in the US than IX doesn't mean it did better in the West in general. And if we're only at 500k shipped in the West right now then I'm pretty sure DQ XI did worse than IX in the West.
@Ben-do1bf6 жыл бұрын
@@charlesdickens1803 Oh for sure, IX did very well on the DS in Europe, DS was the only time Nintendo really excelled in Europe. PS4 is doing very well in Europe, but SE's numbers don't make me very confident total Western sales are that amazing, ESPECIALLY if they don't want to individually brag about Western sales, if they were meeting expectations, SE would jump at the chance for positive PR.
