This is a very easy beginner woodworking project that sells well! Very low expense and high profit margin and, best of all, the plans are free! Check out my website below for the free plans, just dig around until you find them.

I have so much respect for the fact you are giving your basic plans away for free man. Seriously. That really is what most new wood workers need. Its kind of ridiculous how many YT woodworkers talk about helping out beginners, push a "simple" build on them and then try and sell them plans for 10 bucks a pop.

Thanks, and you make a good point. Part of what took me so long to progress was not wanting to buy plans for basic projects. Glad ya like it!

@@burnstockwoodworking Yeah, seriously man. Its the exact same with me and I'm a "plans in hand" kind of person when it comes to building things. Also I just cant afford it atm and even if I could, I don't like the idea of paying that much for such basic plans. Especially with items like this or planters, most of the wood workers probably have these plans sitting around in magazines (probably given for free) they have collected over the years. That last bit may be a bit cynical but point is valid. Thanks for the reply and all the work you do for us viewers.

Just a quick question. When I go the the big box store how long should I let that picket rest/dry before I start making this? I know for most projects I make, I let the wood rest in my shop a couple days. Does this need to do that as well?
@burnstockwoodworking
@burnstockwoodworking Жыл бұрын
With it being an outdoor project I wouldn't bother unless the wood is soaking wet. It's not a big factor for something like this.

Like. If you cut the spindles by flipping the board, would that simplify the process, and make it easier to make the spindles more even?
@burnstockwoodworking
@burnstockwoodworking Жыл бұрын
If you were cutting all the way through yes. But since we're doing a stop cut you would have to put a 1/8 wedge between each spindle to account for the gap the saw blade makes. If you cut the spindle then flip the board the next cut will not be straight unless you wedge between the existing spindle and the remainder of the picket.

What is the purpose of the tung oil as a finish? Does it help the cedar keep its color or something? As i know cedar is already outdoor safe raw. Again great project!
@burnstockwoodworking
@burnstockwoodworking Жыл бұрын
It just helps it to last longer and retain a fresh look. Plus, any cedar touching the ground or beneath the surface will rot at a rapid pace, tung oil helps to slow that down.
