Today I'm painting beginner friendly loose Autumn beech trees, most beginners are nervous about using rich, almost tube consistency paint, so I'm trying to show how using plenty of rich paint - student quality Cotman tube paint n Creulean blue, raw and burnt sienna, burnt umber, indigo and paynes grey - can easily give wonderful effects when used with the correct paint to water ratios using the wet in wet technique, this of course, is something that comes with practice, and trial and error.
I'm painting on Millford 100% cotton cold pressed 140lb/300g weight paper, 11" x 15"/28cms x 38cms, my paper is taped to my board with ordinary decorators masking tape and is at an angle of about 45 degrees so gravity will help me paint. I use various brushes as demonstrated in the video, but use whichever brushes you have.

I like the calligraphy brush you used here. I have been using a rigger, it doesn’t always preform the way I would like. Thank you for this content. The minimal brush strokes and pallet are wonderful A hour later edit: I had my student grade Van Gogh paints out. After watching this I tried a Raw Sienna and Phathlo blue- this is a grand Autumn green

I have had no success with hake brushes by cheaper brands. Do the Ron Ranson hake brushes keep an edge better? Mine lay down washes too streaky and the bristles separate. Thank you for any hake advice. I love your tutorials.

What brand is your hockey brush? And what brand is your calligraphy brush it looks like a Chinese brush can I use a rigger brush instead of calligraphy brush
