SOO glad I found your channel! I have been wanting to learn how to hand-quilt, but don't have anyone to show/teach me. After watching your demonstration, I feel like I'm able to grab some scrap fabric & give it a go! Thanks! 😊

Hi Emily! I recently found your videos on sewing and quilting and I thank you for your simple and clear instructions and tips! I am a beginner quilter and have only been sewing for a few years. I am following you now and look forward to all of your tips and advice. I just finished watching your tutorial on quilt binding and I learned a lot from it. I can't wait to apply your tips to a few unfinished quilts that my mom left me. Thanks again!

When I made your Explore quilt recently I hand quilted it. Wish I had seen the tutorial first though!

Very helpful! I’ve yet to try it out but look forward to it! How does that little knot stay put long term? I worry it’ll come out. I’m in process of making a quilt for my son’s arrival, so i expect heavy use and washes often. Thanks for the help!!

I’m glad you enjoyed it!! If you bury the knot inside the batting it’ll hold up ❤️ congrats on your new addition to your family!

This is beautiful. I would like to try it. But just wondering, do the stitches tend to snag and pull out of place?

I haven't had that happen!

I’m curious as to why the Big Stitch Quilting needles is your preferred needle? I have many, many different hand stitching needles and I’m sure they would be sufficient, however, if there is a reason to buy this particular kind, I’ll look into it. Thank you.

Hi Emily Jane, I just found the answer to the question I asked on a previous tutorial. Thanks again.

I’m glad! If you have lots of needles already there’s no harm in trying out a few options and seeing what your personal preference is! ❤️

Question..if you’re using a hoop, how do would mark the lines? Before loading it in the hoop? Thanks
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane Жыл бұрын
Yes, I mark the lines before putting the quilt into the hoop -- that way I can mark large areas at one time :)

@HomemadeEmilyJane

I’m so glad you liked it! The backing on this baby quilt is a metallic print from Rifle Paper Co.

What kind of needle threader do you use? Mine always break the first time I use!
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 5 ай бұрын
I like the ones from Clover. Make sure your needle eye is appropriately sized for the thread you’re pulling through

So you do the big stitch before you finish the sides?
@HomemadeEmilyJane

No, I do the big stitch around the edges as the final step

What batting do you use? Where is the best place to start stitching?
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 2 жыл бұрын
Here’s a helpful article to help you pick out batting: homemadeemilyjane.com/best-quilt-batting/ Some people say to start stitching in the center and work outwards, but I’ve found that if I baste it well then it really doesn’t matter where I start.

Do you double the thread or single
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 2 жыл бұрын
I don't double the thread, I find that using 8 wt or even 12 wt perle cotton is plenty thick for the big bold stitches.

So do you use embroidery floss for hand stitch
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Heather! Great question! I personally use Perle cotton thread. This video covers all the supplies I use for big stitch hand quilting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o4HHZX2ih9ycgrM

Do you baste your quilt?
@HomemadeEmilyJane
@HomemadeEmilyJane 4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I talk a little bit more about it in my previous video! I spray baste and then also add a few pins for extra security
