I've been holding my urge to comment but man. There's so many good stuff about Artist's Opus videos I don't even know where to start. Maybe the most impressive thing is that Artist Opus do sell stuff and yet their videos are amazingly gentle: there's no products forced thru my throat here. Sure they use their texture palette and brushes but don't hide themselves using a citadel brush and won't favour any paint brand over another. That alone pumps a sentiment of trust here. May sound weird but that's how I feel when I see those videos. Second it's the subject itself: been painting for ages and there was a boom in the hobby at say, the 00s. Rackham, non metallic metals, glazing... Then our old friend dry brush became sort of... cheap. Something perceived as a must-avoid if you were to be a 'good painter'. Your videos are a kick in the nuts to that stupid sentiment. To show you can achieve results far from tabletop quality, on par with airbrushing (wich I know isn't available to some due budget) just dry brushing and stippling, while having fun instead of painstakingly pull off advanced paint trickery... feels like a love letter to the hobby itself. Glad you exist, really tempted by your products, they look high end TBH. If I had to be picky, I'd say these videos last longer than I like. Still, the vehicles, the neon coloured wall... A blast to see. Sorry for the long comment... I knew how much time filming and editing takes so I thought it was appropriate to spend some time in saying other than just 'cool'. Keep the good stuff coming!

Thank you so much dude, means a lot! Not at all, we read every comment, and this one is packed. Interesting you mention that, we're judiciously cutting the next video as I type actually, the fine line between concise and lacking in nice, extra tips is a difficult one to balance, we're finding our way though, and you should hopefully find future videos a little less baggy :)

If you use a matt varnish before the shipping medium but after the mask, the varnish will fill any gap under the masking and minimize the risk for bleed under the masking A tip I got from a home renovation show in the 90s

Absolutely loving the 'Series D' videos... The techniques on the purple-green building blew my mind! As an armour modeller, I remember when hi-tech painting was Humbrol enamel base, dirty turpentine pinwashing and grime, followed by heavy DRY BRUSHING. Then DB fell out of fashion for many years and *now* it is this season's must-have fashion again. I really want learn more about these 'high definition' techniques and start applying them to military / sci-fi models and scenics. HENCE a set of 'Series D' is on my wants list. (hopefully some birthday cash will take care of it, this month)

this is an awesome technique and i use it all the time, and there is another way to use it to show distressed paint too, which i use on both my 40K models and my 1:35 scale armour models! STEP1) base coat (can do some modulation at this stage, i usually just use a pre-shade) STEP2) chipping fluid (i use hairspray, its way cheaper, and you can decant it into an old herb/spice jar by just spraying a load of it into the jar with the nozzle right in the opening) STEP3) mix a slightly different base colour (go lighter for a dark base or darker for a light base) and apply this thin and random over the top, you do not want full coverage, the cloudier the better! STEP4) when dry, use a damp brush to re-activate the hairspray and chip the top coat. this will leave the look of randomly distressed paint, like your vehicle has been out in the open for a while with crew climbing on/off and maintenance and so on, its looks really cool and will give your models a nice unique finish!

Just bought some brushes from these guys - totally blown away with how they've got me back into good old fashioned, chilled and relaxed techniques of painting..... Had been dragged into airbrushing (which, don't get me wrong, I also love), but it was missing that 'relaxed' factor every time I came to clean it, change paints, deal with a blockage etc etc.... To see how Artis Opus use dry brushing to rival the effects achieved by airbrushing was like someone waking me up from a bad dream.... I'm straight back into how I used to paint when I was younger and it feels so good. Totally recommend you ask your local store to start stocking kit from AO....I shall be doing so.

Another great video man, I really like the variety of techniques you show off - it gives me loads of ideas of stuff to do on my own models! Any chance you can do more weathering stuff, like how to stipple on rust patterns and maybe even some different weathering schemes that you would use? I've found that weathering on my Dark Angels looks very different to weathering my Necrons or my Blood Angels and same again for my Star Wars Legion Stormtroopers, so I'd love to know how you pick and choose how to weather any given army.

Hi artist opus I do something similar with layered maskol, I’ve applied it using, scoured, sponge, old battered or custom brushes, and the stippled over with your D series brushes. Gets a similar effect but with a starker edge, the two technics used hand in hand look awsome, lastly have you tried contrast paints over it.

could you do a video about doing blends with these brushes also do inks work with these like going over zenith type of thing or can you do stippling with inks id imagine there too watery but idk also games workshops dry paints work with theses or are they pointless or go on too thick?
@ArtisOpus
@ArtisOpus 4 жыл бұрын
So many good points. 1 - you can use Citadel dry with them, you're pretty much restricted to edge highlights, but it works beautifully! 2 - Inks over zenithal is 100% a thing! (Great way to achieve NMM) 3 - Stippling inks is fine, you can also add them to colours to make your stippling more vibrant! If you find them being blotchy a little of Vallejo's Glaze medium in the mix can go a long way.

Alex Anzola Jürgenson The top comment on here is suggesting a matt varnish layer after you’ve placed the masking tape which will seal the gap between the paint and masking. Great idea, but I would be a bit worried about pulling off the new layer over the varnish - whilst doing chipping techniques though, that could actually be useful 🤷‍♂️ from my experience as a painter/decorator, it’s more about the quality of masking tape and the care you put into smoothing down your working layer.
