How is this switch more reliable than a regular contactor? How does one inspect the contactor points for wear?
@Thermoelectric7Сағат бұрын
Reliability wise it's down to the fact its sealed, and it switches at zero crossing. This eliminates debris inside causing issues, and the zero crossing substantially reduces arcing on the points so there's very minimal wear. They're not made to be inspected as the design will pretty much eliminate the wear you look for in an inspection.

No more bugs to get fried between open contacts.

Does this have a traditional coil/spring in it or is it solid state?
@Thermoelectric7Сағат бұрын
Traditional relay, but electronically controlled. Monitors for undervoltage to protect from brownouts. Switches at zero crossing to substantially reduce wear on the contacts.

Do they have options for us commercial guys?

Works for all control voltages I believe so unless it’s 460 you should be good or 3 phase where one leg isn’t constant to motor. ofc Refer to manual but I don’t think they make a 3 like only version

What is the advantages of using this contactor?

The manufacturer can now sell a $5 part for $40 😆

Warranty, sealed contacts to prevent dirt/bugs/etc from messing up the contact points, and limited surge protection, to name a few.

The main point is zero volt crossing switching, reduces arcing substantially so you get a much longer contact life. Monitors line voltage to protect against brownouts. Multiple voltage coil so you're not going to accidentally blow it up.

Had to look that up. According to Google AI "Zero-volt cross switching (ZVS) is a technique that allows a circuit to detect when the AC waveform crosses zero volts. When the circuit switches on at zero volts, it can improve system efficiency and reliability." For this application, "ZVS can minimize wear on mechanical contact and reduce the risk of inductive kickbacks."

It's more reliable than a standard open contactor, in theory. Sealed and switches at zero crossing so you don't get the arcing which damages the contacts. Also has some smarts to protect the compressor from damage due to undervoltage, for example.

I use these as well, they work great.
@f1reguy58711 сағат бұрын
We usually just fit a bit of DIN rail if there wasnt some, bit more universal, theres probably some use for this, but unless its in a machine as standard it wont be a retrofit, other options were to fit it in an enclosure box, so this is somewhere inbetween.

Its still a coil driven contactor. Switch is just the name.. nice sealed unit and will be compliant with the new refrigerant. Thanks

Has some smarts in it, protects against undervoltage/brownouts situations and it switches at the zero crossing to substantially reduce wear on the contactor points.

I hear the soft starts are much better however, quit costly. Maybe the manufacturers ought to consider using them for reliability and long service needs. That might bring down the cost of soft starts.
