Bro, I've had some bad riffers block lately. Been ill (military injury that retired me and I've struggled with for nearly 20 years is progressing), lost my keyboards job with my Germany based band, tentative keyboard/effects job with Canadian band is now questionable. Have an unfinished war/death metal demo sitting for 5 or 6 years only needing lyrics/vocals/samples and I think my guitar partner needs to do his solos. My main band is on an extended hiatus since Covid with songs for a split on hold for vocals, but the other band replaced a vocalist and we are ahead of them as far ss recorded music. On top of it all, my new riffs for main group and a nedw doom project have been uninspired, but this video sorta snapped me out if it, I think! Was immediately inspired to try something new and picked up my Drop F 7-banger and my D Std10-stringer and some heavy stuff appeared. Gotta new subscriber here... thanks for the inspiration!!

@JoshuaBlakstormOfficial Жыл бұрын
One thing I found to be quite useful is the good old Jazz Fake Book! It has like 625-650 standards in it. Many, many years ago I would pick a random page and extract the overall chord progression then mutate it in all the ways I could conjure up. Take a progression and arpeggiate the chords, add extensions to spice it up a bit, sweep pick unusual voicings, tap out the extended chord progressions, play them in odd time signatures, etc.... I did that with the Beatles complete scores throughout the years. All 227 songs! Having a lot of Major chords it made it interesting applying them to death metal. I came across a gerat number of riffs that were death metal but had a somewhat "happy" sound due to the chord quality. To me Morbid Angels-Heretic and some of Formulas had bright-major tonalities here and there which makes it an interesting contrast! Another cool thing is to take the jazz book and instead of playing the given chords, use the Grimoire scale book and apply a different scale to each chord and see what happens. I know recently Brett Stine published a extremely exhaustive and in-dept book on the analysis of Holdsworth that is definately worth checking out! Or, as you know simply picking up and playing without too much over thinking can produce satisfactory results as well lol I look forward to your future videos!@@DUNN..

@@JoshuaBlakstormOfficial Damn!!! that’s extensive list of methods and thought out approaches and applications of your knowledge. My approach it’s definitely more ear and I search for patterns that for whatever reason I like depending on my mood that day . I definitely practice my picking techniques more than theory but definitely haven’t finished learning and you’ve given me many cool ideas and tips to explore.

I realize now that my other comment was probably naive thinking it's just the amp, sorry!!! I'm extremely new and I got my first guitar yesterday but is this a pedal producing the bulk of that sound or is it just an amp and strings + down tuning? Thank you so much!!!
@DUNN..5 ай бұрын
Welcome to the guitarist club. Majority of the sound is a tube amp and the speakers with the amp being boosted.

This guitar is great! Is it the goatwhore signature? ESP LTD should really bring this shape in more!
@DUNN.. Жыл бұрын
Correct Sir, Sammy Duet/ Goatwhore signature 100% agree they should make more of this style and they would definitely sell

Oh man, what a glorious sound you got there... I was trying to make that punchy sound, but had to give up... Probably overkill for my cheap Jackson Minion and Zoom G1 Four, eh... :-(

Thanks for checking out the video and leaving a comment. I started with a practice amp and no pedals with a $150 strat copy. I’m 47 and sometimes I’ve had to save for 2 years in my factory job, never give up the dream and you will get the guitar you want 🤘🔥🤘

Any studio specific headphones from Beyer Dynamic or Sennheiser would work well . I started a focusrite Scarlet 2i2 and it worked well for me now I’m using a Antelope Audio Zen Go
