The juxtaposition between the "still in original package" items, clothing items still new with tags buried under other new items against the condition of the sofa just shows how little we understand about the issues these people are dealing with on a daily basis. You really gave this person a good start, Barbie.

I kept seeing an ad for a tool like that, and I almost bought it but wasn’t sure if it would really work. That made such a huge difference! I’d love to know where to buy one also. I forgot the name of the ad I saw a while ago. It was showing to use it on stairs that are hard to get into the creases and corners. Midwest Magic Cleaning sent me to your channel. Good job! ❤

that tool is great for smaller areas but, for cleaning larger areas like rugs I suggest investing in a rubber broom. It is a game changer. I have one that is broom on one side and squeegee on the other. The trick with a rubber broom is to use short quick strokes. It will get up everhy bit of pet fur and human hair and is so gratifying. I also use mine during the winter months to scrape the snow from sidewalk and cars. The squeeqee is extremely helpful for cleaning off the car. I got mine years ago from qvc but, they have them many places including amazon.Mine came as a set of a regular rubber broom, one with squeegee on other side, and one with a short handle to use on furniture, etc.

I have even more respect for you after helping our friend this past weekend working hard for just two days. My husband and I are in our 70's and hauled out a sofa and twi briken futons and brought back in a large sofa. It took me 2 hours to clean the refrigerator and it was basically empty when I started. I did lots of cleaning while my husband and friend took 27 tubs of stuff and more to donate. When we left, he had a nice living room area, a clean bathroom and kitchen. There were still lots of things to go through but so much better. Our friend had suffered for years with depression and anxiety but is finally getting help and doing much better. Ee helped him get a fresh start and have great hope for his future. I understand why you clean for strangers in such hreat need. But it was exhausting work mentally and physically.

I need to deep clean and organize so bad it I can’t find anytime, because I have my daughter who’s severely autistic 24/7 I can’t leave her unattended even with the nanny can on in the playroom or she will get herself in trouble I pray to find someone like you to help me I can’t find at cleaning people that don’t want a mortgage payments worth and my house is not even remotely close to what I see on your videos and so many others. I just need help so desperately and there’s no one it’s unbelievable all the cleaning people want clean homes to clean here! How that even makes sense makes no sense 😭yet I see so many cleaning places that I am shocked aren’t condemned.

But when in this state of mind- how would they be able to figure out “oh I just stop buying for 3 months then I will buy a new sofa. Nice job Barbie, looks totally amazing when you're finished. I know this has to help the home owner. It is easy to have an area that you are not sure where to start cleaning, but like you you just start in one area & work your way around. When I have been cleaning a room, (if I have to much stuff) I will totally empty out the room & go through stuff & put where it is needed. Sometimes there can be so much stuff in a room that there is not enough room to move around, so I find it is easier to start with a empty room & start putting stuff back in where it needs to go. But I know this can't always happen, especially if you have more than one room to clean (you just do what is best way for you to do the cleaning). And don't worry about what the furniture looks like now that can always be replaced when the person is able or is ready for a change (don't worry about what others think just move forward & keep working toward your goals). Take baby steps & keep setting baby steps once you reach one go to the next & before you know it you will feel better about yourself & your home will look amazing.

I always wondered how a place could become like this. Over the last 2 years I've been working on my mother in laws home. She's a hoarder and has a 3 bedroom house that is piled to the ceiling with similar items like this apartment was. She's been in the home for 40+ years and if she brought in 1 object per day that's 14,600 objects in the time she's been there. She got to a point 10 years ago where she stopped cleaning. I think that's what a lot of these videos show. People get to a point where they can't deal with life or their apartment/home and just stop cleaning and picking up after themselves. It's very sad but I hope this person is able to stay on top of their apartment.

We are starting to say; The first 25% of our lives, we didn't have anything. The second 25% of our lives, we bought things. The third 25% of our lives, we spent trying to organize and manage all these things and the last 25% of our lives, we're trying to declutter and give away, donate or throw it all away... Just depends on when life happens to spin you out of control over and over until you have the daunting task of digging back out over and over in the aftermath... ty Barbie, Midwest Majic and just found A beautiful mess tks to recommendations and mentions of eachother...you've all helped us put that foot forward, one in front of the other each day, to get back up and go again as we're healing...forever grateful to each of you...your each angels thankyou ❤❤❤!

It's the same as with the couch: Mental illness makes some people buy stuff that feels instantly rewarding and is cheap (clothes) so they can't afford big investments like a new couch that they actually need. It's not a failure of will, they are not bad people, it's a failure of the brain to regulate properly. I am budgeting for a move with a big closet and my brain is also like 'Ugh I don't want a useful closet, I want clothes and hobby stuff and cosmetics'. The difference is through years of therapy I can now push through it. Without it my home would likely be like this.

This is me at 2:40 “The condition of the couch: I kindly ask you not to judge. For many people, the realization that they need help comes comes late. As a result, slowly but surely, things crumble, drains get clogged, things get broken. Then it becomes a long lasting situation that can span months or even YEARS. By the time they reach out for help, they are often ASHAMED of the state of their home and HESITATE to invite anyone inside their home. That is why broken furniture is kept.”
