Really beautiful work, Alex! 😃 The shelf looks fantastic! (But it still needs an elf...) Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Really like the turn buckle idea. I have a long fold down shelf against the wall and was trying to figure out a way to reinforce it. I think this would work perfect

Your seemingly endless excitement and possibly caffeine fueled run-on sentence delivery of material is accentuated by the juxtaposition with the calming chill music you play in between your exuberant yet informative outbursts. I'm aware that was a run-on sentence. :-) Also, nice shelf! I really like the turnbuckle idea.

Wow. So many people mad about this floating shelf not floating… even though it is floating, and the turnbuckles seem more aesthetic than structural. I think it’s a cool design and not one I’ve seen before which is refreshing. It’s cool whatever you want to call it 😉

Any advice how you'd affix this to an old plaster&lath wall?
@BevelishCreations Жыл бұрын
I’m not too familiar, but i always assumed regular anchors for drywalls would also work for plaster walls

great work Alex! New sub here. Just getting into Shapr3D because of you. Just wondering if you have any suggestion as what tools to invest/skill to develop first as a very newbie in woodworking thing? Cheers man
@BevelishCreations Жыл бұрын
Hey! It’s hard to tell you what tools to get for woodworking, it’s a pretty heavy topic. I learned everything from KZbin so I suggest watching videos and see what others suggest and why

New sub. Like the project. I think recessing the shelf for the bracket was the better choice. Beautiful shop. I just picked up a VEVOR planner after comparing it to dewalt. It’s really sad how poor the quality of dimensional lumber is. Even with your prep work, it’s still cupped. 😖 The stud finder…that is the absolute best!! I’ve tried them all…useless junk!! But that little rig you got, I’ve got two cause they are without equals for accuracy!!

Thanks so much! Yeah haha it was flat for two hours and then cupped after I came back from lunch 😂

Awesome shelf and top-notch editing as always 🙌 It’s a shame some people get caught up on the most trivial of things in your comment section instead of focusing on your craft. Hopefully you don’t ever let that strange behavior discourage you 🙏

Uh, sorry I don't mean to be _that guy_ but is it still a floating shelf if it has any kind of visible supports?
@BevelishCreations Жыл бұрын
Yes...because even the ones with supports shown underneath are still called "floating shelves"
@nunyabidness3075 Жыл бұрын
I don’t mind being that guy. No, that’s not a floating shelf. I love this channel, but no. I don’t care if some Professors of design decided on a definition where these supports are allowed, they don’t own the language and that’s not what us regular folk call floating. (I’m look at you government economists. Don’t feel smug!) However, floating shelves are getting to be over done, and if our host wants to get ahead of the game, he can start planning videos on how to add supports to floating shelves to update them from “that depressing Pandemic Era style” to whatever is coming next. 🤣😂🤣😂

Hahaha let’s call it The Cantilever Shelf

@@BevelishCreations 👍 I think the supports fit with the room better than a floating shelf would anyways.

@BevelishCreations Жыл бұрын
It does. It’s just unavoidable with construction grade lumber we get at the big box stores 😂…which is why I don’t usually get stuff from there.

You must be a single guy, no woman would go for those turnbuckles in her home. There really was no need for them unless you drink too much and need a railing to hold on to

Find me a place where I could buy one like this. And tools are considered assets. This costs less than what could be bought in stores

@@BevelishCreations "A floating shelf is a form of shelf with its wall fixings hidden within the shelf board, with no visible supporting brackets." It's not tho, lol. Even if you read this technical term somewhere, people are expediting a shelf without visible supports when they click on your title. Like you built a super nice and strong shelf, while not just call it that in the title. The word "Floating" is here just misleading, just like the other comments are saying.
@BevelishCreations Жыл бұрын
But this shelf shouldn’t work with the way it is anchored to the wall. If you placed anything on the back edge, the shelf should just rotate. Should I call it a “hanging shelf”?
