Hiya! That green dress looks so lovely on you & of course everything needs pockets! I don’t understand why manufacturers don’t do this as I have vintage dresses, skirts from the 30s-50s all w/ pockets, some are even formal🤷🏼♀️. I love repurposing *secondhand* leather, suede, fur (& I’ve been a vegetarian for most of my 62 years). They’re natural fibres that will degrade easily & like you said won’t crack or peel. Additionally it doesn’t use gobs of chemicals to create & take thousands of years to degrade leaching the chemicals into the earth (scary to think about how many faux items are made, discarded each year😳). You made very creative & fun use of a sleeve giving me ideas for extra things to make from the plus size leather swing coat that belonged to my mother, thank you! It’d look cool w/ grommets & lacing as well! Thanks again & have a lovely weekend! Jet 🧡🎸🎶⚡️

Garment manufacturers try to find areas to cut costs (in sewing and fabric consumption), the removal of pockets from the garment design, cheapens the wholesale price quoted to retailers.
@BlueprintDIY2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Thanks so much! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
@RnR-Rebel2 жыл бұрын
@@victoriaburchette9305 - Yes, I agree! However, many of the dresses (most of my wardrobe is vintage, or nearly so as I haven’t changed size since a teen I’m such a 🍤😬) I have were inexpensive “house dresses” (so beautiful I’ve worn them to “fancy” - not formal- functions) in the 30s, 40s when money was very tight, especially during WWII. Yet they still could put in pockets🤷🏼♀️. Geez if I wanted functional clothing today I’d have to buy boys clothing (a mens s tee is a dress😂). It’s the “pink tax” I suppose? J. 😘🧡
@victoriaburchette93052 жыл бұрын
@@RnR-Rebel - Yes, but sewing labor was so much cheaper and not as government regulated during the time vintage clothes were generated. As you know, there were a lot more sweat shops in existence back then. I have worked in commerical garment manufacturing industry for over 30 years. I helped produce a mass volume of garments to sale in big discount retail and highend retail stores. Retailer's data track customers spending patterns and know how much their consumer is willing pay for an item and relay this info to the wholesale manufacturer. So if not including a pocket reduces wholesale price of garment to hit the retail store buyer's price point, its done. I don't know if you noticed that the majority of clothing made today has no blind hems, its due to costs. Blind hemming a garnent requires 2 sewing operations versus top stitched hemline only requires 1 sewning operation. I love vintage clothing and love pockets in my clothes too! 💯❤
@RnR-Rebel2 жыл бұрын
@@victoriaburchette9305 - I understand what you’re saying as I was in the design/manufacturing biz as well as retail since the early 70s & on my mothers side of the family it follows thru way back to the 18thC (maybe further back if I did an ancestry check?) However these dresses *all* have the ILGWU tags inside, so they weren’t made in sweat shops (nor was anything I nor my family designed, manufactured; actually Malcolm Forbes came on his HD w/ bodyguards on bikes as well to every single show I did & was actually pleading to give me money to invest in my biz but I refused, then he died, insane to recall that!) Therefore I do believe it can be done, they simply choose not to due to a simple use of scrap fabric & sew a few extra stitches. If they did a marketing panel, I guarantee women would prefer the pocketed version but $ over preference is the greedy way while their already making insane amounts of money! It’s interesting how greed & selfishness has taken over since I first started😢. A fellow vintage lover, high five✋! 😘🧡

See, I glad to hear someone else speak on the virtues of genuine leather. I have pleather items that I spent some really good bucks on garment, like you said, and they just disintegrated. The whole process of making these so-called faux leathers is not good for the environment and then this chemical end up in the landfills. This is a total forever piece. LOVE IT! This also could just be done in wool or with most any kind of fabric. Now you are saying this can be done with a regular sewing machine? Congratulations on finding a good fitting leather pant. Your styling of the harness over the blazer with black leather pants is sharp and I also like it over the dress to. Could you do a try on for the things you thrifted and showed on IG? I have this sick addiction to seeing the purchases but then seeing them all tried on. So do you still have the Loewe belt on your to do list? Was that tannery shop, I told you about, in Houston still open? Thanks for sharing and blessing to you and all in the days to come.
