Do you have a cutting machine/Cricut? Or a pair of Scissors? You can easily decorate a shirt to wear yourself or to give as a gift.
I recently bought a sweatshirt that has raw edge applique. Upon further inspection, I realized how easy it would be to add raw edge applique on a t-shirt for my granddaughter or myself. I am using Cricut Design Space to create an image.
I show you cutting fabric using a cutting machine, but also how to use fabric with shapes to cut your applique piece, and how you can use household items to trace shapes on your fabric. I adhered heat n bond to the back of one of my appliques, and I also show you how to use Elmers Spray Glue and Odif 505 spray adhesive. The adhesive keeps the fabric in place while stitching around the shapes. You don't even have to have a sewing machine as you could hand stitch the applique on your project.
This is a fun and easy way to personalize shirts, sweatshirts, sweatpants, bags, quilts or anything and it only requires a garment/bag of some kind, a scrap of fabric and a needle and thread. I hope this tutorial inspires you personalize a gift for a family member or friend or even yourself.

I just found you April, and im enjoying your videos. I made so many outfits for my kids when they were little (going on 30 years) using these techniques. I'd let them choose the fabrics and make shorts or attact a skirt to the t-shirt with the fabric. Then I'd do an applique on the t-shirt and add cuffs using the fabric.

@@aprilscraftroom that’s a bummer. I made my Mother’s Day shirt this year and did the word Mama across the top and then put all 5 of my children’s names and I forgot to press it with the iron before washing it and I ended up cutting it really close to the stitch line because I didn’t want that much of a ragging look so it didn’t bond to the shirt and never would after it was washed and it is now coming apart because again I cut it too close to the stitching. I learned my lesson about that and I need to remake my shirt but I still wear it often even though it is messed up in that one spot. I said I was gonna stitch it down but never have and it’s holding up! I think it would look good on the rag quilts before the pieces are sewn together! When I make my son a new one when he outgrows the last one I made him I plan to do that but he is 2 and it is just his size for now!

I wanted something quick and dirty. But I will definitely be giving that a try. I really liked the way the edges frayed around the letters on my shirt and wanted to give that a go. :-). Thank you for watching. April

Since you are using your snc machine, cut your heat n bond 1/4 to 3/8 smaller. Attach it to your fabric and scan it in up side down and then cut your fabric so it won’t have heat n bond all the way to the edges of your shape. 😉
