Love it! I never shy from a good Snello recipe. I made one with veggies I boiled & pureed, then I added knox, calcium carbonate, and bloodworms. Another one I made similarly, but with Repashy Soilent Green instead of the boiled veggies. For the recipe you shared here, I'd opt for something that does not contain spinach, since spinach, when consumed, prevents calcium absorption. If you google that phrase "spinach prevents calcium absorption" you'll find some info on that. Love the simplicity of using the plastic bag. Some people make their snello completely in the plastic bag, freeze it, then break off pieces. But let's face it. The hearts are cuter! I recently got silicone ice cube molds that make LITTLE 1 cm. ice cubes, and I'm going to make some Snello in those. I have found that the candy molds I have on hand are too big. The snails can consume it, but it is too big a quantity for the shrimp tank and I have to either thaw it then cut it, or put the whole chunk in and then turkey baster it out in a little while after they lose interest.

Ooou cool thanks so simple! I like how you mentioned to add in the gelatin slowly. I had to learn the hard way😅 Also thanks for telling me how long they can last in the freezer. Question: How often should I feed mystery snails this? I know they can eat good but sometimes I worry about overfeeding.
@J.A.Arellano2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! Well I’d say, it depends on how many snails you have. At one point, I had over 30 mystery snails and I did several cubes about twice a week. If you have way less, maybe 1-2 cubes also twice a week. In between I did supply with pellets/ flakes. You can also gauge by seeing how much food is leftover once you feed! That should give you a ballpark as to how much! :)

Very nice video. I was inspired and bought the products you recommended. I bought mini heart molds as well as mini fish molds! So cute! I’ve been worried about what to feed my Margarita snails after they nicely cleaned the algae off the tank glass in just a couple of days.

Hmm.. mine doesn’t float.. You did the same recipe? You can also get a wooden skewer and stake it into the substrate! That’s what I do when I feed raw fish to my tanks.

Could you also make snello like how you would jello? With two parts hot water and one part cold? I have calcium blocks that I'm going to grind up, as well as algae pellets and snail pellets, also some blanched veggies. So I was wondering if I were to do the regular jello method, if I could just grind up the food and mix the powdered food inside the snello mixture? Edit: forgot to add this but I found a mystery snail egg cluster in my tank, so I have mommy fever and want to make snello an easy way. This way is super easy, so I'm going to look into getting food molds, I was just wondering if my mind is in the right spot for the method I offered?

Thanks for the reply, I ran all over today to no avail! I did however find a zoo med reptile calcium with vitamin D3 which I was hesitant about so I made the recipe without the calcium. Here's to hoping they sink instead of float! 🤣 Thanks again!

Welp it sunk so that's good, however my target audience (assassin snails} didn't really touch it; even tho I put it in late at night so that they had a sporting chance. Instead it was devoured by my Panda Cory's in my small tank and my school of rummynose tetras in my larger tank. I think ill need to make another batch with some stinky protein to intrest the assassins
@J.A.Arellano3 жыл бұрын
I just did a quick google search for assassin food, what about adding some frozen bloodworms or frozen mussels? I saw they sell frozen mussels in cubes at pet stores as well. It might be worth giving that a try. Or maybe even some ground up tilapia. I don’t have assassin snails, just mystery, ramshorn, and trumpets. I put some sliced up tilapia on a skewer for everyone else to eat but they climb up the skewer to devour it too. Might be worth a shot? You’d just have to be careful with adding too much tilapia and then an ammonia spike if left untouched.
