I’m so glad I held off on doing planted tanks😩 moving with clawed frogs, a bullfrog and other fish cross country (again). Your plants are stressing me out making it more than your fish😂 for future movers I would strongly recommend NOT feeding your fish while they’re in the buckets.

I'm so glad i saw your video. I've done so many moves while in the army and then as a army spouse but never with my fish. I'm moving next month from AZ to MI and I feared my fish would die on the expected 7 day drive. I want to go slower and have more stops so i extended the travel time from 3 days to 7. I have been growing hornwort, val and some other plants in my tanks and plan to put them into medium large totes with sponge filters running off air pumps with 2 inches of my existing sand in bottom. ,The plants and sponge filters with sand should keep cycled water for the new house too. I even bought a smal car inverter and a battery pack system that runs off a solar panel i can put ion the dash for the trip to power my air pumps . I can use them for power outages and camping when i get to my retirement home. . My plan is almost identical to what you did so i feel so much better after watching your video. . Especially after your fish survived 2 months in those buckets/totes. I just need to google what type of water to buy on the road for top ups. Thanks again for posting this.

Videos talk about the physical differences but don’t talk about the plant resilience & ease of care : Green Pothos is willing to survive any horrible treatment from low light to root rot, hydroponics, no change of water for 5-8 months, 0 nutrition, stem rot damage but the plant still grows like nothing happened, cuttings root fast in 5 days in water, it accepts low light and also I saw a variegated Pothos in Saïgon ‘s burning afternoon sun. It’s impossible to kill. I saved 4 green Pothos cuttings about to die after the owner moved out and left them 4-5 months in abandonned flat, there was almost no more water in the glass, many were all rot, now they grow like crazy in low light. Very easy to propagate. On the other hand, I’ve just bought a immature Philodendron Lemon lime cutting where the roots are too weak : They can’t take overwatering, the roots rotted, the leaves are too thin and can’t stand the heat, easily look dehydrated, curling or wilting , they are dropping one after the other. I’m in Saïgon Vietnam where it’s 33-38°c everyday in April, an issue western vidéos from US won’t talk about : how indoor tropical plants do in hot tropical weather, high sunlight. Since the cutting root system is too juvenile, I have to nurse it indoors under A/C below 30°c and I’m not sure if ultimately it can stand the outdoor heat on balcony as I planned to plant them outside in a planter. It will be in shade low light but some hot morning sun rays can reach and burn. So that’s a problem if it cannot take few Sunrays. After 10 days the cuttings are barely rooting. Philodendron looks better than Pothos but I’m bored. Micans seems more tolerant but Lemon lime is too finicky. So that’s another thing to take in consideration

I've got a few notes that might help you or anyone who watches this video. 1. Minor correction, you made calcium acetate, not calcium phosphate. Calcium phosphate would be if you used phosphoric acid. 2. You can use oyster shell flour instead of eggshells if you don't want to hoard, wash out, bake, and grind eggshells. 3. You can speed up the process a lot if you use higher concentration acetic acid. Vinegar is just 5%, using 20% will make it way faster. You'll want to use 1/4 the amount. You'll probably have to buy that online though, so it's a little less convenient. 4. You can also speed up the process a ton if you add some heat. I use a hotplate but the stove would work just fine too, providing there's adequate ventilation because otherwise you'll stink up the house with strong vinegar fumes, which would he unpleasant for a few reasons. Apply heat and stirring for about an hour or so then allow to react for 24 hours, filter, done. A day or two instead of 3 weeks. If you get the ratios right it will have a neutral pH too. It's usually best to use a slight excess of shells. You can even do a big bulk batch of calcium acetate and then allow the liquid to evaporate either on it's own or by putting on low heat to speed it up, then you'll be left with solid, water soluble calcium acetate that stores indefinitely and can be either directly put in with your nutes, or you can still use it to make liquid CalMag.

You seem to really understand this well. I have a couple of questions I think you will have answers to. First, how often is it recommended to add a cal/mag feed? Assuming grow medium is living soil (natures living soil), started with soil designed for tomatoes/peppers that already have lobster/crab shell derived calcium in it? Small 3-5 gal pots. Also, I've read in some places cal is most important in flower, and others it's more important in veg. I imagine it's needed close to equally in both? Last, and probably easiest to answer straight forward. When making said cal/mag, what is the ration to apply it? i.e. Add a tbl spoon to a gal of water? How much per plant, and whats a general cadence of how often? Oh also, frequency and quantity of application for autos? Does it differ from photoperiods? I really appreciate if you can share any insight at all on these questions. I realize there are a lot of variables, so you can't necessarily answer them straight forwardly. If there is any generalized answer, that would be greatly appreciated.

@OkieOrganixCannabis Ай бұрын
5-8mL/Gallon is a pretty safe ratio to add to your feed. I add Cal-Mag EVERY single time, but my house is on a soft water system, so I must get the nutrients to bind to something to make available to the plants. If using hard water, get a water test. You may have enough calcium that all you need to do is add a little Epsom salt to your waterings. I'm not as smart as the OP, but that's what I do! I also have oyster shell and calcium Carbonate in the soil, they still will show signs of Cal or Mag deficiency. 😂 It's ultimately up to the individual plant to tell you what it needs. A water test will really help you. If you have high chlorine and/or chloramine content you can fix that with an air stone and 24-36 hrs. 😎💨

Love it! I never shy from a good Snello recipe. I made one with veggies I boiled & pureed, then I added knox, calcium carbonate, and bloodworms. Another one I made similarly, but with Repashy Soilent Green instead of the boiled veggies. For the recipe you shared here, I'd opt for something that does not contain spinach, since spinach, when consumed, prevents calcium absorption. If you google that phrase "spinach prevents calcium absorption" you'll find some info on that. Love the simplicity of using the plastic bag. Some people make their snello completely in the plastic bag, freeze it, then break off pieces. But let's face it. The hearts are cuter! I recently got silicone ice cube molds that make LITTLE 1 cm. ice cubes, and I'm going to make some Snello in those. I have found that the candy molds I have on hand are too big. The snails can consume it, but it is too big a quantity for the shrimp tank and I have to either thaw it then cut it, or put the whole chunk in and then turkey baster it out in a little while after they lose interest.

Could you also make snello like how you would jello? With two parts hot water and one part cold? I have calcium blocks that I'm going to grind up, as well as algae pellets and snail pellets, also some blanched veggies. So I was wondering if I were to do the regular jello method, if I could just grind up the food and mix the powdered food inside the snello mixture? Edit: forgot to add this but I found a mystery snail egg cluster in my tank, so I have mommy fever and want to make snello an easy way. This way is super easy, so I'm going to look into getting food molds, I was just wondering if my mind is in the right spot for the method I offered?
