Do you want to learn how to draw but have no idea where or how to start? Well, you definitely need to watch this because I explain how to do it as if you've never even attempted it before in your life. I know it might seem daunting, frustrating, even intimidating. But drawing doesn't have to be any of that. It can be fun, enriching, and rewarding!
Drawing is a skill that most people wish they could do but they immediately put themselves in the category of "Oh, I could never do that." I want to take this time and welcome you to my channel: Draw Sessions.
I've been drawing all my life and have had the privilege of working both for AAA game studios and also movies. I have taught foundation drawing at the University of Cincinnati and it's time now to give back. I understand the frustrations of learning art in general but specifically, drawing. My channel is dedicated in helping absolute beginners, intermediate artists, and industry veterans - all wanting to improve their drawing skills. Please like, subscribe, hit the notification bell and comment below if you're finding this channel helpful in your journey of becoming an artist.

I’m a self taught artist blacksmith and getting a little old to swing a hammer all day long and I’m looking for something a little less physically demanding. I stumbled across your videos. I always liked the idea of drawing but always thought it was a natural born talent. I never thought that it could be a learned skill. I first saw your more advanced videos and now seeing this one. I am going to give it a try and start these drawing exercises. Thank you for sharing your skills, you have given me inspiration to go for it. BTW, love your monsters! Maybe I’ll share some of my progress along the way. I kinda want to learn to draw human bodies with animal heads. Thanks again for your time and inspiration.

This is exactly what I need. It's not that I've never drawn before, but rather that I haven't drawn in decades (and for me at least, it's not like riding a bike...). I know of no art form that doesn't require huge amounts of tedious foundational work to get truly good. I try to turn it into a form of meditation.

These techniques should always remain crucially valued and never underestimated, similar with the clothing lines of the past video. Going back to basics goes a long way.

I've been wanting to learn how to draw animals/creatures for a long time. I found your channel and am trying to find the right videos for me. Having to learn the basics first can be tedious but I love seeing my lines slowly better with your tips and techniques. Super helpful! My ultimate goal is to draw realistic ants, bees, and other insects and creatures. Good to watch a fellow Insect Lover 🐜❤

I'm a rusty self-taught artist who normally drew from the wrist until recently. THANK YOU for putting the foundations of drawing so succinctly into one video. Now I'm off to draw 2,500 shapes and lines! :P

I simply must tell you how grateful I am for you taking the time to teach us. I really do appreciate your work, and your skill. I I'm self-taught. I leveled out around the age of 13. I began drawing when I could pick up a pencil. Because of the maxing out thing I stopped drawing and switched to being a seamstress , theater Makeup artist. Home repair woman, costume designer.you name it . With four children I wore many hats. A jack of all trades so they say. I met an artist when I was about 15. He was published in Time magazine back in the 1980s. He asked to see some of my work. So I reluctantly showed him. He told me that the methods I was using with charcoal were bastardising. Then he asked me to pose nude. So cliche for that era..I did not take him up on his request . I've seen the method he called bastardizing used time and time again on this KZbin forum. I've since picked up my pencil again. I so desperately and deeply want to flourish in conveying what I feel, I see or what I want to convey. Your channel, your abilities as an artist and teacher Excel far above others that I've seen. I'm old now disabled and going blind, And everything else age gifts us. I just want to keep trying, more and more and more and more. my disappointment is still there. And I'm not being critical I'm being accurate. I still have a long way to go I wish I had someone like you years ago! So From my heart I thank you. From an old lady in Kentucky ❤

I would love a video going over how to draw keratin texture.so like bird beaks, horns, talons, etc. I tend to draw dinosaurs, and most dinosaurs have keratinous coverings over their eyes and snouts, and I really struggle with getting the texture right.

Same I like to do copy drawings references for like my favorite comics or like my favorite manga so proportion and sizes just throws me off I don't get it even if I do it off of a reference photo it just never turns out right. I haven't tried to do it from a TV show cuz I think it would make it worse.

Thank you for sharing this video I will be checking out your other two videos that you have for us beginners. I also want to say this I hope that you do more videos like this for beginners as well I enjoy your creature design as a comic book artist I figured who best to learn from then a creature designer cuz eventually my hero's got to fight something so I've learned a lot from just watching those videos even though some of your creatures designs make my skin crawl LOL. The next thing I want to say is you've taught me something that I've been asking and I didn't know I was asking and I explained to anyone that would listen to me in my family there's something missing in my foundation it's not clicking for me and I think this is what it is I've been drawing for like nine months now I've actually even went to community college for this fall and winter semester and I walked out of basic drawing one and basic drawing two like I hadn't learned anything. And I asked both of those professors what I can do to improve outside of their class I feel like there's a gap missing between me and everyone else and I didn't get what you suggested that we do. they just told me all beginner artists feel this way eventually it'll click that's what I was told. And frustrated the hell out of me and I had to sit in critiques and watch my work that was very very terrible. Compared to everyone else and I know comparing ourselves to others is not what we should do as artists. But that situation was so embarrassing it affected me in a way. But I'm passionate about drawing and I want to be able to be a character designer and a comic book artist and I got to keep going and I just wanted to share this with you because it means a lot that you took the time out to make this video. And I think this is what has been missing from my foundation I've done this but I haven't done it in the way you have suggested and it was never explained in any video that I've watched before yours and explain why this is important for beginners to do. so again thank you.

I’m gonna try and incorporate these as warm-ups. Or something I do when I can’t think of anything to draw. ADHD makes trying to make myself do exercises like this hell. I’m trying to force myself to switch to drawing from the shoulder. It’s been an uphill battle. Do you know anything about master studies? I assume they’re done to try and emulate aspects of a master’s techniques or style, but no one ever says how to do them. I only see videos of artists discussing what they learned or worked on. And it’s usually really traditional artists that we have a lot of information about(in regards to their methods). Not artists who were lesser known or didn’t talk a lot about their techniques. And I’ve never seen anyone say how to go about these. I’ve copied artists but I don’t feel like I learned their techniques by doing that. Thank you so much. Your channel is so informative!
