@modenim3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear of your troubles. Yes you can try shutting off the main water to the house, then start opening faucets from the highest point of the property to the lowest. Let all the water drain until there’s nothing but a drip. Turn your main back on and start shutting off faucets in the reverse order from bottom to top. When the main water is shut off be sure to flush toilets as well. The purpose is to force out any build up of air that may be in the lines. If this does work, and the pipe clamps aren’t the issue, it may have something to do with the pressure of the water coming from the main line or perhaps one or two of your lines requires an air chamber. You’d have to look these other possibilities up. Far too much to explain here. If you’ve tried all you can then you may have to call a plumber. Hope this helps

Help! I live in a mobile home and have pet pipes. After I run the water at my kitchen sink (mainly the hot water) there's knocking/thumping sounds coming from under my dining room floor. I've had the pressure valve changed and lowered water pressure from 100 to 63 but it did not help. It also happens sometimes even when l'm not running the water. This may not be related, but coincidentally around the same time the thumping sound started my floor boards in dining room started to make creaking/snapping sound. Do vou think I have the same problem as yours? Or do you think it could be something else?
@modenim Жыл бұрын
If it’s not happening when water isn’t running or being shutoff, it may be something different. I can’t say really. There is the possibility there’s something wrong with your pressure gauge, or expansion tank.

That’s definitely a possibility. Typically inside bathrooms or kitchen walls where pipes run vertically to your showers or taps. . Same kinda of result if clamps comes loose or air is trapped in the lines causing water hammering when faucets are turned off.

i live in an apartment building on the bottom floor. every day and night, randomly, i will hear crazy loud banging - so loud i thought someone was trying to bang on my window bars with a metal pipe the first time i heard it. i soon realized it was coming from underneath my apartment. it lasts for about 30 seconds - 1min or so, and the sound will crescendo, then fade away. my apartment manager is incompetent so i'm left to investigate this on my own... can't figure out if it's a water hammer issue, air, or just simply bad/nonexistent clamps.
@modenim3 жыл бұрын
If you’re on the bottom floor what’s underneath your apartment? Underground parking? Sounds like the source will be challenging to pin point
@dnevnaabica42764 жыл бұрын
I hear a knocking sound every day for the past few weeks at around 4:30 or 5 AM. The sound comes from right outside my bedroom, which makes me nervous because the water heater for the house is directly below my bedroom. The odd thing is that I don't think it is water hammer - the sound is more like a loud woodpecker than a single knock and lasts a few seconds. It also happens in the morning before I use any of my water. What might be the cause of this?
@modenim4 жыл бұрын
Hey Abigail, if the issue only occurs at a particular time it doesn't sound like it's a water hammering issue if no water is being used. Is your house attached to a neighbours? Is it possible they shower or use water at a particular hour? Could it be a pest living in the walls? It's really hard to guess what it could be but it does sound like a particular event is taking place like clockwork.
@dnevnaabica42764 жыл бұрын
@@modenim Thanks for the reply! My home is not connected on any sides to a neighbor, so I can rule that out. I live in Arizona, so I'll just look into what pests could make my walls home.

But how to find where the sound is coming from ?
@modenim2 жыл бұрын
If may be easier if you have someone with you turning water off and on. If you know where your water comes into the house, you can start following pipes from there. That’s assuming at least some piping is exposed. Otherwise, it’s a listening game and it can definitely be challenging.

So. Is that clamps for everything? Like the pipes near the water heater vs on every floor? And we will always have to open the walls to figure thag out, right?
@modenim2 жыл бұрын
Hey Lovina, clamps are typically for plumbing that is switched on and off thereby causing changes in pressure. Taps, toilets, washers, dishwashers, etc. A water heater’s water supply is continuous. Meaning the shutoff stays open to supply a continuous flow or water so the pressure doesn’t change. So if you’re hearing hammering or shaking pipes, yes you may have to cut open walls to find the source. Bathroom showers and taps are typically the best place to start. I would try draining all the water in the house first to make sure it’s not just a build up of air in your water lines
@mjm10124 жыл бұрын
Knocking on pipes only when flushing the toilet not when turning on faucet - hot or cold. Can see pipes under house but do not see any obvious vibration. Seems like the knocking is coming within the pipes.

@@modenim can u detail how to do this method please?
@modenim3 жыл бұрын
Ok give this a try. Turn off the main water to the house. Go to the highest point in the house and start opening faucets and flushing toilets. Work you way down opening faucets and flushing toilets until all are open including any laundry sink taps. Let all the water drain until there’s no water in the lines. Now turn on your main water and start shutting off the faucets in the reverse order. So you’re now shutting water off from the bottom to the top of the house. Doing this should force out any built up air in the lines. If this doesn’t work, and clamping the pipe line isn’t the issue, then I’m uncertain what the problem may be and you may have to call in a plumber unfortunately. Hope she his helps
@eloisenair9564 жыл бұрын
Hello Mark we checked all the clamps and even add more.it helped for a while but then the vibration started again.we fitted new taps stopped for and hour then started again. What else can we try.
@modenim4 жыл бұрын
Did you shut off the main and drain all the water from the lines, then turned the main back on again? This will likely clear any air in the lines. The pipe clamps keep the pipes from shaking when water pressure is released then stopped but if there’s air in the lines that can cause the same effect.
@jacobkowski77053 жыл бұрын
Pipes around the water meter in my basement make pulsating knocking noise when water runs and the noise gets louder when 2 or more faucets run water. Any idea?
@modenim3 жыл бұрын
Could possibly be air in the lines. Try shutting off the water and opening up on the taps. Let all the lines drain than turn the main water back on again and turn off each tap.

Please can u advise. Everytime we open water from upstairs bathroom directly downstairs in our kitchen we can hear a tik tik tik noise . Ive had one plumber out. He opened all my taps in the house slightly not fully flushed both my toilets and outside hoose pipe tap. He said the cause is airlock in the water copper pipes. Any idea what it could be as we still have the issue of the noise especially if we open the tap upstairs after a while. If we open the tap and close it and keep repeating constantly then no noise. Also my 2 water pipes are loose behind the sink aswell. No idea if this makes a difference to the issue or not as not clipped
@modenim Жыл бұрын
Hi, so did the plumber not fix the issue? The ticking could be a pipe tapping against a pipe strap that’s come loose, or tapping against another pipe or mental. Pressure in the lines will cause the pipe to move if it’s no longer strapped properly. Air in the lines can make it worse. You have to continue to investigate to pinpoint the source. Unfortunately, that’s something someone who is there would have to track down.
@Mr_Wanderlust1 Жыл бұрын
@modenim plumber came on Monday just told me to open water in all sinks and flush toilets and put washing machine on too. He said its airlock I'm water pipes. We still unfortunately have the same issue. So needs further investigation. From one ceiling below bathroom we get the tik tik noise when we open hot water from sink or bath. And the other ceiling below we hear noise like water drops but there is no leak visible.

Sorry to hear of your troubles. My issue was only when I turned on the hot or cold tap then shutting it off is when the knocking happened. my pipes ramble after I flush the toilet, I also have ghost flushes
@modenim3 жыл бұрын
To fix the ghost flush try changing the flapper inside the toilets tank. Should only cost maybe $5-$10 bucks. Water is likely leaking from the tank into the bowl. As for the ramble, I’m uncertain. May just be air in the line or, like in this video your pipe clamps are loose or gone.
