I found the easiest way to wash braids were with a 99 cent pair of stockings. Girl, I know, but trust me. Cut the legs off of the stockings and split your braids into two sections. Put the seat of the stockings over your head and used diluted shampoo to cleanse your scalp. The stockings keep your roots in place and helps the hair not curl up too much. Leave it there til your hair dries if you can and you're good to go. It works every time.
@Nae2Curly7 жыл бұрын
GIrlllllllllll. Now this is a great tip! Thank you for sharing :)

Janae Mason you're welcome girl! Oh yeah, I also kept those cut off legs as a "loc sock" kind of. The longer the braids are the harder they are to sleep with. When it was time for bed, I just placed the braids in loose/low pigtails and used the cut off legs to keep them together with a hair tie. Less stress on your roots and it's easier to lay on your back or side without the hair being everywhere. Cheap and multiple uses for the win

My Family Fixed This - Naturally: 1. Wash your hair with Sulfur 8 shampoo, using a silicone scalp massager. 2. Let it dry naturally. Be sure to blot the excess water with a brand new towel or one that you have never used on your hair / body before. 3. That night, SMOTHER your entire head with Vaseline - wrap it in a scarf and sleep that way. Why? The easiest, most 'natural' way to kill the yeast / candida and anything else that is living on your scalp which is what is probably happening - in a matter of minutes - is to simply smother it - NO OXYGEN means no ability to breathe, thrive, grow or survive. 4. The next morning, mix bentonite clay, apple cider vinegar and tea tree oil (whatever ration you want...it really does not matter) into a bowl (do not use a metal spoon when mixing clay - use plastic or wood only). SMOTHER your scalp with the clay, let it dry then just sit under the shower and let it rinse off until the water runs clear. You may need to do this a few times to get all of the Vaseline off of your scalp and hair - but you'll see that you've just 'killed' the yeast when not one hair follicle itches. Repeat weekly, or as often as you need to and be sure to hot wash with white vinegar and baking soda all of the bedding, towels, clothing and anything else that it may be living on. (fyi never mix bleach and vinegar). We tried this - and it literally solved the problem overnight. If there is a new issue we just repeat the process. Good luck and God Bless!

@@gailbail060 Because you probably have a lot of bacteria and candida on your scalp. The bonnet creates a heat barrier, and the raised temperature causes the bacteria to stir. Below I've replied with the remedy passed down from my grandmother that saved our family for decades from this problem naturally - I'll repost it again here for you in the next reply. Elizabeth Cook Then the itching could be from dry scalp issues, which is pretty normal in protective styles because the scalp is always exposed and not covered up like when you have your natural hair out. But you might also be allergic to the braiding hair itself. Try yarn braids. Best decision I've ever made. My braids look more even, because the yarn is so much easier to work with than nasty ass extension hair, it's lightweight, my hair feels super moisturized when I take the braids out after one or even _two_ months, AND there's no itching from the hair at all. Only itching I get is if my scalp is dry, like I said, in which case I just use some diy scalp oil to moisturize my scalp and hair. And I spray my braids every single day with some water mixed with cheap store bought conditioner and peppermint oil. My hair has never felt healthier. Try it, I can vouch for this 100%!

I think you're supposed to wash the braids/extensions first in ACV mixed with water to get the products out that can cause this itching.

Marleen G. Yea I mentioned that. I said I should've did it before. But since I already had them in I had to do what I had to do. Trust me I learned from my mistake

Marleen G. Naptural85 has a video out on how she wash synthetic hair before she installed it. Thank you for being so transparent about your experience. Now I know how important, first had of washing store bought hair before putting it on my head.

Marleen G. Maybe her scalp is sensitive. I don't soak my extentions and they don't itch me.

I heard some people are allergic to certain braiding hair. You may have to figure out which brand you can use next time.

This time when I got braids. I made sure to moisturize my hair real good. I mean my hair was very greasy when I got my braids. I also had the dark and lovely AU Naturale length retention SOS nourishing scalp elixir. It helped me and I had no itching try to stay away from the oils that made me itch

I had this exact hair style done to my hair last week and it was so pretty but the itching was killing me. I literally had sores from scratching so bad. Unfortunately I took it out a few days later because I just couldn’t stand the itching, but I will definitely use this video for the next time I have braids.

I have dandruff, and I love like wearing box braids or Faux locks as protective styles for my hair but in like a week or so my hair starts itching and flaking out. I've learned that witch hazel which I basically just buy at the dollar store or TJ Maxx or anywhere you can get your hands on it.If you put it in the fridge for like a couple minutes and then you take it out and just dab it on the affected area it feels so good afterwards.

This is my first time getting braids. It’s been 3 days. I used apple cider vinegar, washed my scalp, put oil in and it still itches. Probably going to take them out tonight because I can’t bear it and I’m afraid of chemical burn and damage to my scalp and my curls 😭😭

Sistahs! I believe the itching from extension hair is simply our bodies telling us that it should not be in our heads. When you think about, where is it really coming from and can you trust to the source, you rethink it. I'm done with putting extensions in my hair!
@its.dayday__7 жыл бұрын
Roxi Heart I think it depends on the person. I don't have an itchy scalp at all. It also isn't dry. Whenever I put in braiding happy, it never itches
@Jayariee7 жыл бұрын
Or SIMPLY the dye used on the braids which can easily be washed off with a acv rinse or shampoo. Where do you think the hair comes from?
@inactiveme326 жыл бұрын
Yep after all these year I found out I was actually allergic to weaves. My itching would be sooooooooo bad! I'd bleed and scab up. It was terrible.
@moniquecambero76356 жыл бұрын
Roxi Heart I've been having severe itching for the past 3 weeks or more. NEVER experienced that before, NOT to that degree. No weave, no braids here, ALL natural kinky 4c, lol. But I do like braids, and the last time I left it in for 4 months. Believe it or not, I've NEVER had an itching problem. But hey.,I guess you live and learn.
@SuperGeekalicious6 жыл бұрын
Sistahs! Itching is from the chemicals that they put in the extensions! Soak your extensions with vinegar and water for about half an hour then wash it out all the chemicals. The itching will stop!

You couldn't do faux crotchet locs. These things itch so bad, I almost gave myself a lobotomy! Thankfully I found out about Cantu ACV Rinse. It made a WORLD of difference! I follow up with Doo-Grow Anti-itch oil. I haven't tried the other Cantu ACV Refresh line products yet, but I've heard mostly good reviews, especially for the Dry Co-wash.

Lordy I’m currently soaking in apple cider vinegar, my box braids were UNBEARABLY, UNBELIEVABLY itchy. I be never felt an itch like that before I was literally about to cry in frustration 😭 let’s hope this works. I’ve only had them in for 6 days. It’s also my first time ever getting box braids, my niece did them for me

Prep your scalp by washing with an anti itch or dandruff shampoo, and a vinegar rinse before installing your braids. That makes all the difference. If you have sehborric dermatitis use medixated braid spray. I'd advice away from coconut, olive oil and shea butter. These oils aggravate the symptoms of seborrhic dermatitis.

I concluded some years ago that doing braids is not for me, even when I soak it in ACV. Ironically, I do braids for people too! But my hair itches less when it does not have products in my hair but can get dry. Some people are so lucky - they can do anything and their scalp isn't sensitive. I always shampoo my natural hair and do the ACV rinse! It used to be torture

When my hair itches and I can't get in between to scratch it. I get a long bobby pin-open it and use it to scratch with LÖL! I leave it in my hair and hide it under a braid for quick usage.

I was told that the dam dyes they put in braid hair when they make it caused the itching. I believe it's true something they process the braid hair with seeps in your pores causing the itch and when you add oils or grease makes it worse once it dries out

The hair has a coating on it that causes it to itch. If you soak the hair with vinegar and water you would see a film in the water. That is the film that comes off the hair that coats it. I soak all my braiding hair before using it you could have mixed the water and vinegar in a pitcher and let it run through your hair. I hope it helped. I love your videos.😘
