I like that you include some discussion and examples of the stylistic aspects of the genre - space, short phrases, repeated short riffs - that make even early attempts sound more like a "real" funk solo.

Nice licks! Good insight into funk rhythm as opposed to other genres! (I have to wait for the neighbors to go out to practice this. Ha)

Thanks for the lesson Nigel, but I´m a bit confused. When I tried to access the pdf and backing track I received an email that told me that I could now access the Locker inside the Members area. But in order to get there I need to join the School? With all due respect I thought it was free material. Being forced to get a free trial giving all my personal information is not what I was expecting for a simple exercise. I understand you are running a business, of course. This access is a bit misleading though. Just my two cents. Fantastic jam otherwise. Thanks anyway. EDIT: I was wrong. It is indeed free. The reason I'm leaving this comment is to stress that Nigel replied to an email I sent in a few hours, clarifying all my doubts. This is clearly a testament of great support and a well run operation.

Hey, Nigel! I catch ya:) In the sixth bar of your jam you are playing slightly different pattern rhythm than it's on the score.:P Ofcourse, both versions are super cool, thank you for the inspiration. Greetings from Bulgaria! :)

Nigel I'm thinking about starting play saxophone. I don´t know what to buy but I know I like the bright sound of the Alto, do you know any good (reasonable) model for a budget of 500$ to play Funky Music? I would really appreciate your input.

If your in the US, try to find an Aristocrat. They play alright w\a full sound. You can generaly find them for $200 or less.

@@McGillMusicSaxSchool Nice one! Is there any particular reason you choose this particular brand and model over some of the other ones like Selmer and Yanagisawa?

Can I ask why are you using the notes that are not in the major scale? Why flat 3rd and 7th? Thanks

Is this played on a tenor or alto sax ? Brought a tenor sax but worried it’s not the right instrument for those high funk notes

I’m on alto in this lesson but you can also get a great funk sound from tenor. Check out this lesson : kzbin.info/www/bejne/g6WTfWlsa6d2jK8 Or this one is good if you’re new to sax: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4Ddq6Vuo66bqNE

For a begginer session you really rush and don't show where the fingers go easily on the notes it's difficult to see what fingers are actually on or off imo

This was obnoxious. I'm starting out on tenor, i cant see your fingering position as it got more complicated beyond bflat. Time waste for real* absolute beginner tenor.
